After the old lids are removed, thoroughly clean the concrete rim of the septic tank opening. This involves removing any surrounding soil, debris, and especially any tree roots that may have grown into the area, using tools like a shovel or a pickaxe. Once larger debris is cleared, use a wire brush to scrub the concrete ring to ensure a clean, smooth surface. Finally, use a powerful shop vacuum, such as the Craftsman Wet/Dry 17 Gallon model shown, to suck up all remaining dirt, dust, and small particles, ensuring the surface is pristine for the new adapter ring.
