Before starting the installation, gather all necessary tools and materials as shown. Prepare the existing stairs by removing any old staples, nails, fasteners, or adhesives using a scraping tool. Thoroughly sweep and vacuum all step treads and risers to ensure they are clean, smooth, and structurally sound. If your stairs have an existing overhang, modify them by either cutting off the overhang or filling in the area beneath it to ensure the riser is flush with the step edge. Use a drill to secure any loose elements, ensuring all modifications comply with local building codes.
