Measure and Mark New Baluster (Using Existing Template) — Measure Existing Balusters
Part of project
Baluster Replacement · Step 1 of 6
In this video
The presenter demonstrates how to remove the broken baluster from its position by gently prying it out. He then retrieves a new baluster and places it next to an existing, undamaged baluster on a workbench. He uses a tape measure to compare the lengths of the square sections on the new baluster with the existing one, noting that the new one is longer at both the top (230mm) and bottom (285mm) square sections. He explains that to cut the new baluster to the exact size and angle, one can use the existing baluster as a template. By aligning the 'shoulders' (the transition points between the square and turned sections) of the existing baluster with the new one, he marks the cutting line and angle with a pencil.
