The first step is to mark out the reveals around the door frame. Reveals are small gaps that help accommodate any slight warpage in the trim materials and provide a consistent visual line. For one or two doors, a standard tape measure and a sharp pencil are sufficient. Measure 3/16 inch or 1/4 inch from the edge of the door jamb and mark this line. For multiple doors, it's more efficient and accurate to use a custom-made reveal block, which is a small block of wood cut to the desired reveal width. Simply place the block against the door jamb and trace along its edge with a pencil to create the reveal line.
