To maintain the cohesive aesthetic established on the stairs, the landing is also treated with a carpet inlay, but instead of running the carpet directly to the walls, a hardwood border is installed all the way around the perimeter of the landing. This border matches the wood used in the stair treads and stringers, extending the sophisticated 'carpet inlay' look to the entire landing area. This design avoids the typical practice of having carpet go right up under the baseboard, which would break the visual continuity and the intentional design of the open riser staircase.
