Measure and Cut First Tread — Step 2: Measure Your Tread Depth
Part of project
Landing Measurement · Step 2 of 4
In this video
After preparing the riser, move on to the corresponding stair tread. Measure the depth and length of the tread. Similar to the riser, use your cutting saw to cut the tread material 1/8 inch shorter than the measured depth and 1/8 inch shorter than the measured length. These precise, slightly short cuts allow for the necessary expansion gaps and space for caulking.
