Step 2 · Inspect and Test Heating Element (Electric) or Gas System

This is the step people usually slow down on. Go finger-tight first, then a quarter turn. No rush — replay the clip whenever it helps.

For electric water heaters, carefully test the heating element using a multimeter. Check for continuity; a reading between 10 and 30 ohms typically indicates a functional element. If faulty, replace it following manufacturer's instructions. For gas water heaters, inspect the igniter and burner assembly, checking for any visible damage or obstructions. Replace any defective components.
