Step 3 · Drill Pilot Holes

Select a drill bit that is slightly smaller in diameter than the lag bolts provided with the TV mount. Position the drill bit at the center of each marked mounting hole location on the wall studs. Drill a pilot hole straight into the stud to a depth slightly less than the length of the lag bolts. This step prevents the wood from splitting and makes it easier to drive the lag bolts.
