Step 2 · Disconnect Plumbing: Prepare for Removal

This is the step people usually slow down on. Go finger-tight first, then a quarter turn. No rush — replay the clip whenever it helps.

Position a bucket beneath the P-trap to collect any residual water. Use a pipe wrench or slip-joint pliers to carefully disconnect the P-trap from both the drainpipe and the garbage disposal. Similarly, disconnect the discharge pipe from the disposal.
