Step 2 · Measure the Depth of Each Tread

Smoothly extend the tape across the flat part of the step and over the rounded front edge, which is called the 'nosing.' Make sure the tape lies perfectly flat and level. Safety Tip: For a secure, non-slip fit, you must measure the bare tread surface. Measuring over old carpet remnants or adhesive will lead to an improper fit. Jot down this depth measurement.
