This is the final step to guarantee a perfect fit. Write down the width and depth you measured for every single step. It's perfectly normal for stairs, especially in older homes, to have slight variations. If a step's dimensions differ—even by a quarter-inch—use a piece of masking tape to label that specific step with a number. Taking photos is also a great idea. Remember the carpenter's rule: measure twice. This simple check ensures you get the peace of mind that comes with a perfect, custom-made to fit result.
