First, check the 'nosing overhang'—that's the part of the step that hangs over the riser below. For a safe installation, this should be between 3/4 and 1 1/4 inches. Also, make sure the rounded edge has a radius no more than 1/2 inch to prevent any potential trip hazards, giving your family peace of mind.
