For our adhesive to create the strongest possible bond, it needs a perfectly clean and dry surface. Any lingering dust, pet hair, or oils can prevent the tread from gripping securely, potentially causing it to shift over time. After vacuuming or wiping, let the steps dry completely—even a little moisture can weaken the bond. If you have any rough or uneven spots, a light sanding creates a better surface. A critical safety note: allow freshly painted or varnished stairs to cure fully before installation, as the adhesive will not bond properly to a fresh finish.
