Step 2 · Measure Each Individual Stair Tread

For the 14 steps above and below your landing, precision is key. Measure each step's width from one side to the other. Then, measure its depth, from the front edge of the step (we call this the 'nosing') back to the vertical part (the 'riser'). In many homes, not all stairs are perfectly identical. If you notice any steps with slightly different dimensions, simply jot down a number for that step next to its measurements. This ensures every single tread will be custom-made to fit perfectly.
