Step 1 · Measure Your Landing Platform

Think of your landing as its own unique space. To get a perfect fit, you'll measure its complete width from side to side, and its full length in the direction you walk. If your landing isn't a simple rectangle, don't worry! Just break it down into smaller rectangular sections and write down the measurements for each one. For safety and peace of mind, it's important to verify two things: the landing should be at least as wide as your staircase, and it must have a minimum depth of 36 inches. Finally, a level surface is essential for a secure installation.
