Step 3 · Remove the Escutcheon Plate

This is the step people usually slow down on. Go finger-tight first, then a quarter turn. No rush — replay the clip whenever it helps.

Remove the escutcheon plate—the decorative cover around the faucet. Typically, screws hold it in place. Unscrew these, and carefully pry the plate away. Be gentle to avoid damaging the plate.
