Step 2 · Step 2: Measure Individual Tread Depth
Working one step at a time, place the end of your tape measure firmly against the back riser. Stretch the tape straight across the tread and over the front edge, which is called the 'nosing.' It's vital to keep the tape flat and level for an accurate reading. Important: For a secure and safe fit, always measure the bare wood. Do not measure on top of old carpet, pads, or glue, as this will prevent your new treads from adhering properly and can create an unstable surface.
