Step 1 · Measure and Mark Gutter Layout

Measure the length of each section of the roof where gutters will be installed. Using a chalk line, mark a straight line along the fascia board or rafter tails to indicate the top edge of the gutter. Plan the placement of downspouts, typically at the ends of gutter runs or at corners, ensuring they align with existing drain pipes or splash block locations. Calculate the required slope for the gutters, generally a 1/4 inch drop for every 10 feet of gutter run, towards the downspout locations. Mark the high and low points for each gutter section.
