Identify the house's rim joist above the desired deck height. Mark the ledger board's position, ensuring it is level and at the correct height for the deck slope. Remove siding if necessary and install flashing behind the ledger board. Secure the ledger board to the rim joist using appropriately sized lag screws or through-bolts at specified intervals, following local code requirements for spacing and type of fastener. Ensure the ledger board is level.
