Step 2 · Measure the Landing or Winder Treads

For a flat landing, grab your tape measure. Measure the full width (typically wall to wall) and the full depth (from the top step of the lower flight to the bottom step of the upper flight). For safety and code compliance, landings should generally be at least 36 inches deep and as wide as the stairs themselves. If your turn consists of winder steps, treat each one as a unique tread. You'll need three measurements for each wedge: the depth, the length of the narrow inside edge, and the length of the wide outside edge. Precision here is key to the Oak Valley Difference!
