(5,462 characters)it's hay season on the Stoney Ridge Farm guys welcome to the farm Channel this is going to be an awesome day we're getting the last load of hay out to the farm this year for our spring cut hay and our non-net wrapped hay so today come along as we talk to you a little bit about pricing about how much money it costs to feed the cows over the winter what the purpose of this hay is and why we're doing it guys this is a fun day this is an expensive day I've been unloading and offloading hay for about three days now in the Stony Ridge and now we're going to take you and show you what we're doing all right foreign [Music] guys welcome back to the Stoney Ridge Farm Channel if this is your first time here your 50th time here please hit that like button consider subscribing to the channel we'd love to have you back here on our first generation farm so all around us is a 150 acre first generation Farm project we're getting ready to start incorporating our laying hens in with our cattle as pasture sanitizers you'll get more of that in future videos but this is Heyday so Heyday is a big day for Stoney Ridge Farmers wallet each one of these Bales here these are 37 a piece delivered they are high quality Fescue and mixed grass hay which is exactly what we want we've got some Orchard Grass we've got Timothy we've got Clover we've got red clover white clover purple top Clover all sorts of Awesomeness we have a little bit of Oats mixed in with this too so I'm really happy with the diversity of the forage and that's why we went with this hay this year my hay supplier typically brings a Fescue only hay so I tricked it up a little bit this year and we're gonna buy half from one guy and half from the other guy now you might be scratching your head how's this stuff stored it's stored exactly the way you see it and what we do is we hook to a bale or two Bales every single day during the winter time once the cows are without grass to graze and we roll This hay out onto the land and that helps to heal the land so no fertilizer no outside input no sprays no poisons no antibiotics no dewormer no problems here on the Stoney Ridge Farm and we're healing the land with the hay which is something that's super cool guys so without further Ado we're waiting on our hay guy as soon as our hay guy gets up here we're going to follow them across the farm we're going way way over on the other side of the farm and we're gonna offload this hay each load is 17 Bales and we stash the hay in various pastures throughout the farm so we don't go all over creation and move hay in other words the hay for this pasture is in this pasture the hay for that pasture is where we're going and it's in that pasture let's go get busy foreign [Music] straightened her up a little bit good it's a little loud in here but the tractor is set on the medium range the static tractor so I'm just pressing the left pedal to go forward back just gonna loosen the strap and I'm I'm gonna get him on audio is to do this as quickly as I possibly can timt 254 55 horsepower hydrostatic tractor no problems [Music] bam the last of 10 loads guys you saw me hustling to get this thing unloaded it's just respectful of me to try and get this trailer unloaded as quickly as I possibly can so my hey guy Lane can get back to work at his house so we're gonna have to let him go the tym 574 did awesome the hydrostatic tractor makes it so easy to pull up and back out otherwise I'd be in their shifting gear shifting gear shifting gears over and over clutching shifting gears it'll wear you out this way it's just like a riding lawnmower so guys I want to thank Lane so much you have seen this fella on a previous video where he's taking back old worn out tobacco land and no crops doing cover crops and the reason we're buying hay from Lane and the reason I'm trying to produce the highest quality beef and the highest quality soil here on the farm is because Lane is doing it without chemicals best he possibly can we've got a mixture what all is in this mix oh boots and Fescue mostly yeah there's some rye grass mixed in every once in a while but I saw a little Orchard too right Orchard Grass yep and clover you had some Clover oh yeah red top purple top red top red top okay gotcha so yeah guys it's all about feeding your soil Lane not only did you provide me with hay but you provided me with a seed bank in every hay bale so when I unroll this out on this very poor land land you can tell first thing Lane did was this he bent down oh and he started picking up rocks and then he looked around and he's like man Arena what a two square foot area that doesn't have a rocket sure yep so guys you'll see a whole lot of this in the future and you'll see us unrolling this hey the next hey video will be when my next guy comes out and we're buying from Lane so that next year he can afford to have a net wrap Baler which makes a higher quality Bale that sheds water better so these will be the first bales that we feed this year thanks buddy right on buddy appreciate it man have a good one yeah man thanks a lot guys thanks a lot for watching Sony Ridge Farm Channel today this is just part of it part of the farm life and we spent about six thousand dollars today that's the hay for the winner for the cows we got to think way ahead guys we'll see you next time on the Stoney Ridge Farm hit that like button subscribe the channel I'd love to have you back right lane bring your kids [Music]
