What happens here
After the initial primer coat has dried, inspect the walls and ceilings for any remaining imperfections, such as minor bumps or depressions. To make these easier to spot, some professionals tint a small batch of drywall mud with blue dye. Transfer a small amount of joint compound to a mud pan, add a few drops of blue drywall tint, and mix thoroughly with a taping knife. Using a bright flashlight held at an angle to the wall will highlight shadows from imperfections, which can then be easily patched with the tinted mud. This tinted mud stands out against the primer, making it easy to identify patched areas after they dry.
Goal: Identify and repair any remaining flaws in the drywall finish.
