What To Paint First With A Paint Sprayer. Painting Steps With A Sprayer. Painting Tips.

What happens here

An alternative, though less efficient, method for painting a room with different colors/sheens is to spray the trim first. After the trim dries, it would need to be thoroughly masked using painter's plastic and 9-inch paper and tape to protect it completely. Then, the walls can be rolled. Once the walls are dry, they would also need to be masked off to prevent overspray before finally spraying the ceilings. This sequence is cautioned against as it is more time-consuming and requires significantly more masking materials compared to spraying ceilings first.

Goal: Understand an alternative, less efficient method when spraying trim first in a multi-color/sheen room

Tools and materials

  • 9-inch Paper and Tape — Masking off trim and walls
  • Airless Paint Sprayer — Applying paint to ceilings
  • Paint Roller — Applying paint to walls
  • Painter's Plastic — Protecting surfaces from overspray

to go back dust off our trim and then spray our trim right away. And then once those two are dry, we can mask off our trim. And we always like to roll our walls in this scenario because rolling the walls is always going to look nicer than if you actually spray the walls. Spraying the walls will leave a lot of times lap marks and um spray marks when you're actually spraying. It's really really difficult to get your walls looking as even uh across the walls without any lap marks or flashing on the walls versus if you roll them. So, we'll talk about this scenario one more time. This is a scenario if you're painting the trim walls and the ceilings and you're painting them three colors or multiple sheen. You're going to walk in, spray the ceilings flat or your different color. Then you're going to dust off your trim, spray your trim, and then you're going to go back, mask off your trim, and roll your walls. Here's one thing to keep in mind. When you've got a scenario where you're doing the walls and ceilings a different color and you've already or sheen and you've already actually sprayed your trim, you could actually spray your trim. When it dries, mask off your trim and then go back and roll your walls and then when your walls dry, mask and actually spray the ceilings last. But if you do it that way, then you're going to have to drop plastic from your walls all the way down to the floor, and you'll get it about 4 in from the ceiling. Just tack it all up. Then you'll go back with 9in paper and tape and mask over that and tack your paper to your plastic. And then you can actually spray your ceilings. But we found that this to use more materials when it comes to masking materials and just to be a little more bit more time consuming for us than than actually doing it the opposite. Here's one more
