What the longest you've ever been delaying dealing with permits 🤔?!

What happens here

After excavation, a French drain system is installed. This involves lining the dug trenches with permeable landscape fabric. A layer of gravel (e.g., 3/4 inch washed stone) is placed over the fabric at the bottom of the trench. Perforated PVC pipe is then laid on top of the gravel, ensuring it slopes appropriately for water flow. More gravel is added to cover the pipe, and finally, the landscape fabric is folded over to encapsulate the entire system, preventing soil from clogging the drain.

Goal: Establish effective water drainage away from the foundation.

Tools and materials

  • Shovels — Placing gravel and pipe in the trench
  • Utility Knife — Cutting landscape fabric
  • Gravel — Creating a permeable base and cover for the drain pipe
  • Perforated PVC Pipe — Collecting and channeling water away from the foundation
  • Permeable Landscape Fabric — Separating drain materials from soil and preventing clogging
