What happens here

This project demonstrates various operations using a Gravely Atlas JSV 3400XD utility vehicle (UTV) for transporting materials and debris. It covers unloading the UTV from a dump trailer, using it for a 'break-in' task of distributing birdhouses in a wooded area, transporting large quantities of sand using a mini skid steer, and finally, dumping and grading the sand pile with the UTV's snowplow attachment.

all right guys I broke down and ended up buying myself a UTV but I wanted one design for work I figured I can always use a UTV for fun but you can't use a fun UTV for work but you can use a work UTV for fun so I went on the Gravely website and I ordered what the brand new Gravely Atlas jsv job site vehicle we're going to see it for the first time together they're here you guys are going to see it for the first time with me so at this point I haven't seen it I just went on the website punched a bunch of stuff in and had this thing blinged out check it out with all Gravely stuff how do good D how are you to see you good to see you again there she is there she is you back nice so this is brand new this year right this is new 1000 yes the new 1,000 can you walk us around and show us what makes us different than the other ones the guys may be familiar with you bet a lot of upgrades on the 1000 okay uh so we went from a single cylinder 7 single cylinder 570 engine to this is the flis proar 1000 engine now v twin so a lot more you know more power smoother uh better acceleration um also this is on this new model it's standard with a steel box you can get it with poly this one's standard with a steel box power bed dump and power steering is standard on this as well standard okay okay okay so these guys don't have to order that xt3 or or optional yep couple other options that I had put on this one is Automotive style doors the cab is heated I also went with upgraded windshield and I did a added a headache rack um this also standard with high low beams and then this one snow plow hydraulic not wench I don't have to get out there and move everything I just hit a button and everything angles cuz why not have a snow plow got have a snow PL everything you own so this right here guys is the first time I've ever driven a UTV period backing it up the hill around the corner and right into the I've never driven a UTV before like four-wheelers all the time got I've got four or five of them never sat in one of these and why did I do this do you see this I'm trying to load it up a hill if I would have flipped this whole thing down just if I would have flipped the truck so it was aiming down the hill but it's so much easier but you know coocks we get a little stubborn we figure we can do it so we just do it either way this bed gets slippery so my hand out the window what I'm trying to do here is use the remote control to lower the trailer as I'm going in and I just got to get my hand out the window for the clicker to hit the antenna on the trailer yeah tried to do that she been slippery in this trailer oh sh are you serious I can't get out okay I didn't plan ahead very well I can't get out I can't get out you know you always hate getting your seats dirty that first time especially when you haven't driven the machine for 3 minutes so we're taking this 100 miles up north up toward my farm and we've got I got a pretty hardcore test I want to do with it so I'm going to import about three loads of beach sand and I know I can't get my dump trailer down to dump it so I'm going to use the Gravely I'm going to load the Gravely up and haul it I don't know if this is going to work at this point I might have just literally wasted all of my time but I just want to see what I can do with it and this is going to be a pretty hardcore test today but at this stage this machine is so tight that nothing is broken in everything is just you can just feel everything just very tight at this point we've got some hardcore work ahead of this UTV but before I put it directly in the line of fire I kind of want to get it broke in a little bit it's only literally been driven around my yard and into the dump trailer so at this point I want to take it out into the woods and just put a few miles on it and let everything kind of get synced together snowing it's weird to see pontoons in the water and snow coming down so the best way to loosen it up is we got 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 bird houses to go hang out in the woods by the time we get back she'll be ready for do some heavy hauler you want to run or do you want to ride hey do you want to run alongside or do you want to ride inside your choice you want you want she doesn't like snow hey hey let's go for a uh let's go put the bird boxes up let's go put the bird boxes no you're not going in there's nothing in there for you except warm in a bed and a blankie cuz I know you Sally come on wussy let's go you can ride with want to hop in come on hop in come on it's okay come on hop in you running all right you're running oh I figured by the time we get these 10 bird boxes huh that's going to be enough of a Breakin period for this thing and then we're going to load her down you guys we are going to hard core test this thing we're not going to be nice I think we found our first spot [Applause] [Music] so this is our uh I could call it our hunting land but this is just our land this is been this is our family farm we've had this for three generations now if you look you see a black structure that's my deer huntting Shack that's the perfect tree he got to get that feeling of the best tree down the three houses at [Music] this right here you guys is one of my favorite places in the world I'm sharing it with you actually my dad was born right there this we call this the home place so we have two properties out here so we have they're separated we've got 80 acres out in the woods and then we've got 60 Rivers 60 Rivers 60 Acres on the river it's early morning it's cold my mouth hasn't worked I love this place there's just no place more beautiful than this look at this is this magical to me it is I don't know about you guys but this is everything we got a house to hang let's go hang it huh Lucy the only other place I've ever found that I like almost as much as this was the Primal the Primal is it prime prime jungle Prime Forest of Costa Rica the jungle there the trees are magnificent so they're primary and secondary uh rainforests the secondary rainforest is a lot like this these are actually in the rainforest considered a small tree the primary rainforest you guys the trees you could have four or five guys with your arms like this this is the trees in in the jungles of Costa Rica up on the mountains and they won't their arms won't go around the primary Forest but now Costa Rica has completely protected the whole country country you're not allowed to cut any primary Forest Because the actual animals kind of use it like a highway all the monkeys sloth everything they go across the whole country through the primary forest and now they're also saving the secondary Forest so that that comes back to being primary they're really doing a lot of conservation techniques there I respect them for that but the government of Costa Rica still kind of they kind of don't mind screwing us tingos tingos T that's what they call us are think tingos tingos I can't remember what they call us only reason I know so much about the jungle of Costa Rica cuz I bought 110 acres of it that's how much I like it seriously it's amazing got 110 acres on a river with big plateaus and everything and I don't do anything with it just enjoy it you ready to go Lucy let's keep going so to actually start working this piece of equipment we need sand and when we were working at the the hoarder's house and I was moving that garbage around for Frankie I discovered this super fine sand buried underground and I asked Frankie if I could have some and he told me to take all I wanted so in Wednesday's video not today but coming up in 2 days I'm going to show you a really cool technique I use right here that an old army engineer taught me how to harvest a lot of material just using a skid loader without creating sharp blank blanks Banks or Bluffs where animals or people could fall in so that'll be on Wednesday it's pretty cool but I've got to get the material here so I'm figuring I'm hauling around 9 ton per load which is overloaded for a dump trailer I mean really it is but that's the beautiful part about Backcountry gravel roads you can get away with stuff that you normally couldn't tikos that's but that's what they call us tikos not Tas I think tinga is a Mexican taco all right next up we're going to start loading up the Gravely and bringing it down to the bottom I can't get the dump trailer down there she would get stuck I know cuz I tried once and it got buried that was a fun day oh she got buried after the axles okay so this is the first load and I figure here's the way I look at it that mini loader can go down all the way down and back up without damaging the turf I know that so the gravely's got to haul more than the mini loader and at first I put on two scoops cuz I'm figuring it's twice as fast by the end of this video you guys we're going to be putting a lot more than two scoops on he'll count it but I think I was up to Four Scoops just and watch as I'm loading you'll see scenes where the gra just all right guys so we're in the cab of the mini and I've absolutely loved this machine it's not big it's not really like powerful it's just handy such a handy little that's a big that's a big load of sand so it's a little trick to get it to actually lift up it's too much for this machine to be quite Frank with you but you can still get it to do it so the trick is this machine actually has more up and down Force so going up and down then it does curling Force don't know why so when you're trying to get pick up more than really what it should do you start lifting up and as you're lifting up then you can start curling in because you're taking as you're lifting up you're taking the weight of the pile off from the bucket it's weird weird weird but it works works works let me show you what it be oh wait a minute maybe on the next low n let's just get a low okay this load's going to be way too big for it so I'm going to go in now see it won't curl it right but it'll lift it and then if I curl as I lift boom get a pretty good load that way okay so if I put this on like bravely this will be the biggest load it's t be interesting to see if it hand I don't know if it will be quite Frank her all right guys so I've got it where it's kind of comfortably maxed out right now the Hydraulics have no no issue dumping it um and the the machine handles it pretty well so this is where I feel kind of comfortable that's about a yard of material on there you know what let's go heavier let's see where she starts to get squirly let's just go for it so one thing to point out you guys is this bucket is actually a snow bucket and I use it to move dirt so it's not really designed to get a full bucket full by any means the machine actually can't handle a Full Bucket load um so you'll notice go here we go so this is three scoops on this which is the biggest load to damage in my mind I was thinking what are other applications mulch jobs um anything where you've got to move material from just like this so many different things that you can do with it and I wanted to see well is this actually going to be a practical application cuz if it couldn't dump this load forget it I mean it's like you're not going to go and hand shovel this out so to me I wanted to make sure that this thing could handle this kind of a [Music] load he's squatting a little bit not tearing up the grass though and that is the wetest spot of the yard right there right there I mean it's swamp right next to it I can barely get my mower through there half the time that dump is so nice on this one it's it was the dump was one of the biggest surprises it's fast zero issue zero issue handling the load so this little mini loader you'll watch it'll Spin and as I'm loading you'll see the whole Atlas going down it's pretty cool [Music] um boom she definitely squat I'd like a bigger box I'm afraid though if I had a bigger box I'd use it I know I'd use it I know I would and I know these aren't meant to be off-road trucks but this was pretty cool I mean you can get a full pallet in the back of this trailer or in the back of this bed a fulls size pet it's designed to handle a full size pal where are you where are you Lucy you're a card you know that yeah goofy dog and she grows on you after about 7even years all right tripod's in place let's see think I'll drive down that way back up dump go up the hill you guys will go ooh ah cool shot oh so if you wonder what we're doing to the cabin in the back Frankie and I are switching the roof line cuz it's got a really long low roof line and we're just switching that out it clicks so when it gets to the top of the cycle listen it clicks don't know why but that tells me she's good to go such a fast dump time on it as well I was really impressed with how well this dumped never once did I have any issues and you're going to see toward the end of this we really I mean really start putting some good size loads on remember this is sand this is probably the heaviest material you can get and this is like a beach sand so there's not a lot of larger stones in it and larger Stones actually make it lighter the finer the material the heavier it is because the granular is packed together real tight and this sand is oddly almost like it's been ran through a screener or something and I'm just digging it right out of the ground yeah this whole area actually if you see that green Awning in the background the lake rose up to the top of that green awning twice in the last 5 years and when the water got that high actually the bottom of the green awning when the water got that high it drew all of the material out and left this area just n nasty all right guys it's starting to get dark we've got most of the pile done not quite all but before it gets too dark for you guys to see what's happening I just want to show you the turf damage we don't really have any and I want to show you just how wet the soils are look at this this is just soaked from the snow this morning and so we're really not damaging anything I mean it's just amazing how well this is doing so some of you guys may have noticed the Pontoon is out the dock is up and the reason we do that here in Minnesota is because the Lake's free solid but then as the the sheets of ice if we get a super cold winter one sheet of ice will get pushed up by a second sheet of ice cuz it may freeze underneath it and then it pushes it up and if we don't pull everything out when the ice Moves In and Out it just tears everything apart look at that load that's a big load that's as big as it gets man so with the big load on like we got right now she's a wee bit floaty it's cuz all the weights in the she still turned we got the Weeble wobble going she goes uphill just fine so a good thing to note is that this unit is made by Polaris but what Gravely does is they take polaris's unit and then outfit it for work so everything you see on this UTV actually came from Gravely there's no other modifications besides what you can get right from Gravely only reason I say that is I don't want you guys worrying about trying to track down this that or something else everything that I put on this thing came right from their website so you guys can find exactly everything I had oh this song you guys tell me what you think I wanted to try to work this song into so many videos but never been brave enough and it's weird but tell does it just seem like it fits I'm going to just shut up and you guys tell me if it just seemed like it fits it's quirky but kind of cool [Music] now watch the turf you see all the loads I'm doing everywhere I'm going and that's those two orange cones are a septic system so I got to be really careful over there [Music] in fact the hill on the right side by that steel Shed from those two orange cones down is all the piping for the septic system so that's why I can't have a skid loader I took the dump trailer over at once I was a little nervous as a longtail cat in a room full of rocking chairs trying to do that and I just said it's not worth damaging anything so I know the mini can get it down there but this is way faster than the mini because I'm going three for one every scoop that of the mini is would be a trip down if I was just using the mini loader [Music] welcome [Music] to so this shocked me right here I'm using the snow plow in Reverse system shut down all right guys it's starting to get dark so we'll show you what we got done but I'm going to keep working right up until dark but you won't be able to see how things are going so this thing works amazing that snowplow for grading in Reverse cuz it floats and it doesn't bite so I got to fill in that little low spot there but we had to haul I had to have at least eight to maybe nine ton on per load so we'll call that you know 26 27 ton uh dirt down there just on average this was the path we've taken uh let's just walk it we'll show you uh just make sure I mean okay so just to show you just how wet this is this is where we were working this area hasn't grown grass but I mean it's wet so oh Brown a little right there but I think that was because of driving through the dirt track right there where Frankie and I dug in the power line going down and around going close to the lake not much above water table just no damage just amazing how well that work look like we got a little something something right here but that's about it so I hope you guys uh enjoyed the ride today cabin under my bathtub had to crawl in on my belly underneath the bathtub and it was five 55 gallon trash bags full of walnuts bedding and and it's toilet and did that pretty quick cuz I'm up here a lot let's finish grading red squirrels are evil yeah this red squirrel chewed a hole underneath my floor all the way up through the floor and it came up underneath my I got a big giant bathtub one of those Corner tubs that nobody ever uses but you got to have it and mod home I don't know it doesn't make sense and there's plenty of place for it to store nuts and in about a month when I was gone it was full and you could hear it digging in there and everything else so I pulled the panel off and it's full still can't catch that dang Red Swirl but look at this finish grade this is crazy so all I'm doing is going forward putting the blade down and back dragging backward and I'm Feathering it up and down you would have told me I could have finished graded this well with a snowplow i' have been man I'd say for a snowplow finish grading pretty good these lines are from the shoes of the snow plow that's not bad I mean I got the fence in reserve but holy buckets I didn't think it would do that
