What happens here

The first step in a project of this magnitude is a thorough site assessment. This involves surveying the existing 'massive sledding hill' slope to understand its contours, drainage patterns, and soil composition. Based on this, a detailed design is created to plan the layout of the patio, swimming pool, and necessary retaining walls. Crucially, engineering plans for retaining walls and pool placement must be developed and local building permits obtained, as this is a large-scale structural change to the landscape.

Goal: Plan the layout and obtain necessary approvals for the backyard transformation.

Tools and materials

  • Design Software AutoCAD — Creating detailed plans and 3D renderings of the proposed backyard
  • Local Building Department N/A — Obtaining necessary construction permits
  • Surveying Equipment — Measuring existing grade, elevations, and property lines
