What happens here

This video provides an update on the creator's personal journey regarding his large 150-acre farm, detailing his initial desire to downsize due to being overwhelmed by responsibilities and content creation demands. He recounts a failed attempt to purchase a smaller property, which ultimately led him to recommit to his existing farm. The video then introduces a new development: his friends have acquired the 11-acre property he previously considered, and he plans to assist them with extensive site clearing using heavy machinery, thus initiating a new project related to the specified category.

I've been overwhelmed with creating content here. I've been overwhelmed with taking care of this large piece of property. And to be honest with you, I've been overwhelmed with the feeling of what is this all for here? You know, just just when you just are hanging on to the tiny thread of hope and that little tiny thread of hope seems to just go away from you, that's when something falls in your lap. And I'm not going to say that she fell in my lap, but she did fall into my arms. Guys, welcome back to another gorgeous day here on the Stony Ridge Farm channel. I appreciate every one of you for being here and I want to give you a bit of an update on what's going on with the new property purchase. For a [sighs and gasps] for a long time, I've realized that what I've got going on here on this farm is a lot of work for one person. And we're on 150 acre first generation farm project here in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. I am a busy guy. I also like to have fun just like you guys like to have fun. I'm a busy guy. I want to go out. I want to enjoy myself. I want to be able to have some hobbies other than working on my farm. And most farmers understand if you have a farm, this is your hobby. This is your life. This is your hobby. You got cows. You wake up with them. You go to bed with them. Uh you dream about them in your sleep, right? You've got a farm like this and you want to keep it nice and you want to keep it up. Well, between that and creating content for you guys here on YouTube, I was beginning to get a little bit uh tired. Just tired. That that's all it is. Tiredness in my eyes. I wake up in the morning. I find it hard to motivate, to get myself up, to get out and do stuff. I got bit by the lonear tick. I have the affliction that's called alpha gal. And I can't eat red meat anymore. So, even though I've got some of the best beef I've ever tasted in my life, I can't even eat it. So, all that being said, I was looking into downsizing the farm. I thought I had a buyer for this farm. Uh, talked to some people, had some things lined up. They said, "Yes, we're good to go." I went and I looked at another piece of property. It's about 5 miles away from here that had 11 acres and a little two-bedroom house and a couple little barns and a small pond. And it basically took this big ginormous place, the Stony Ridge Farm, and it compressed it down into something that was a little more manageable for one guy. That being said, uh I posted a video not too long ago about things didn't seem right. I got a bad feeling. Things didn't seem right. Something was just simply not jing with this property. I talked with the owner. I she was insistent that I have a letter of this and a letter of that and it seemed as though she wanted everything to go a lot faster than I could make it go, which to me seemed like a red flag. I needed to get home inspections. I needed to get appraisals, termite inspections. The wells needed to be checked. The septic systems needed to be checked. All this stuff needed to be done and needed to be checked. And to be honest with you, the home was in disrepair. The land is in disrepair. The whole place is in shambles. And I like that idea. I love the idea of rebuilding something, taking something that was just a pile of nothing and making it beautiful again. I love that idea. Well, let's just say that the deal did not go through. I ended up kind of just having to throw my hands up and just say, "Look, I'm done. I'm out. Uh, you know, if you've got to have everything done, look at this cow right here. if you got to have everything done right now, right away, I can't do it. I just can't do it. It's going to take me a month to buy a place. And it's going to take a month to do it. She was insistent. I couldn't do it. So, I pulled I I pulled the rip cord on it and decided I'm not going to buy the new place. But what this did do was put a little bit of a fire under my butt. This place is going to cost me about $280,000, which is pretty cheap considering the amount of land that it was. However, it's very overgrown and we do live in an area here in North Carolina that doesn't have very high land prices. I bought this land out here for under 2,000 $2,000 an acre and and below. Of course, that was pre the world getting flipped on its head. Uh that was back in 2013. So, it's been quite some time and the land value has probably quadrupled since then. But um I just didn't see any purpose in starting over when I got a nasty bad feeling about it. The young lady that I was buying the property from had another buyer. Uh I knew she had something in the works and she had another buyer that was just lined up right behind me. So, I think she felt like she could just she didn't have to make any concessions for me in order to uh in order to sell. And I think that that's what put the bad taste in my mouth. And I think that's what gave me the bad feeling. I do know the new owners of the property and they are dear friends of mine. I don't think they'll be living there. So, we may get a little bit of uh work over there. I think I think we're going to take some machinery over and try to help them out. try to get the land cleared up so I didn't have to buy it in order to take you guys over and show you what's going on. But I wanted to update you. I am not selling the farm. I I've been overwhelmed with creating content here. I've been overwhelmed with taking care of this large piece of property. And to be honest with you, I've been overwhelmed with the feeling of what is this all for? To secondly be honest with you, I've met somebody that I really like a lot. Uh you guys may have seen her in in a prior video. Uh I really like her a lot. We've been getting along great. I think I've found uh a little bit of a new found purpose here. And uh I don't know, there's potential. there's potential that there could be a family here. You know, just just when you just are hanging on to the tiny thread of hope and that little tiny thread of hope seems to just go away from you, that's when something falls in your lap. And I'm not going to say that she fell in my lap, but she did fall into my arms. And I'm really happy with that, too. So, um that feeling of being overwhelmed and feeling of being down, uh which was driving me to want to downsize my life a little bit, uh is starting to go away. I will say this, I work very hard every day to try and bring some awesome content from the farm here and try to share the reality of rural life like this and starting a first generation farm. And I get put down a lot. A lot. I will say this guys, if you're seeing comments that are just horrible put downs, just please stop. Just please stop it. It weighs so heavy on me to wake up every morning and I sit down in front of my computer and I want to answer every single comment that I see and I'm berated and insulted all the time. And I don't care what anybody thinks. It's just not right. You're going to put yourself out there. you're supposed to be have a thicker skin. No, I'm not. People are supposed to behave and treat other people with respect and and gosh, it just weighs so heavy on you. As a content creator, and I've been doing this, I've been making videos on this farm for around 11 years now. [sighs] I'm not going anywhere, but gosh, it it when you wake up every morning to so much negativity in such a positive and awesome place, it just drives you down and it drives the motivation level down of of trying to to bring joy and and share this with folks. So, just want to talk to you'all about that a little bit. I am not moving. The Stony Ridge Farm is not being sold now. Uh, who knows? It may get sold in the future. I don't know. But for now, the cows are here. I'm here. The farm is here. And you guys will probably see a little bit more of my new lady friend in some future videos. So, thank you all so much. I appreciate you. I wanted to let you know the deal did not go through. There was just a bad feeling. I just had a bad feeling about it. The folks that I know that bought the place, they bought it as is. No inspections, no warranty, no guarantee, no appraisal, no nothing. And I think that's what had to happen because honestly, I think if I got my bank out there and had them appraise the property and had a home inspection, my bank would not finance it. That's what I feel like. And I feel like the prior owner knew that and that's why she kind of ran me off. So, kind of a bummer, but hey, we live to play another day. Guys, thanks so much. Please be positive. Be positive in those comments. If you go down through there and you see somebody that's not being nice, remind them. Don't be war never helps war. You know what I mean? Fighting never never stops other fighting. So, kill them with kindness. Give them kindness. Just tell them, "Please don't do that. stop. You know, when you go down through the comments, if you're a fan of the channel, please cruise through there. And if you see somebody being rude and hateful, don't that they a lot of times people are just having a bad day. And I get it. Don't go at them. Remind them to be kind and courteous because we should all do unto others. I mean, we just should. Thank you guys. Hit that like button. We'll see you next time on the Stony Ridge.
