Tube Fabrication For Dummies: LSXcalade Gets New Exhaust! (Tricks I Use to Learn)

What happens here

Once the downpipe sections are taped together and the fitment is satisfactory, the assembly is taken off the vehicle for tack welding. The creator uses a Fronius MagicWave 230i TIG welder. Before welding, he prepares the tungsten electrode by breaking off any 'goobered' or contaminated end with pliers. The Fronius welder has a 'Cap Shaping' feature that automatically forms a clean cap on the tungsten when welding starts. He then performs tack welds at various points on the assembled pipe to semi-permanently join the pieces. He notes that if the tack welds are done on very thin tape, it might lose its strength when heated, causing the pieces to separate if not done quickly. He emphasizes the importance of performing strong tack welds and ensuring the fitment remains correct throughout this process.

Goal: Semi-permanently join the downpipe sections with tack welds.

Tools and materials

  • Aluminum Tubing Assembly — The downpipe sections to be tack welded
  • Pliers — Breaking off contaminated tungsten electrode tips
  • Welding Helmet Vizor 4000 — Protecting eyes and face from UV light and sparks during welding

i use these v-bands uh these particular ones are from race part solutions because they got a thick shoulder on them which is nice and they use the same program so you can get an aluminum one and a stainless one and then use each half of either so this part's stainless because it makes the hard 180 and then the rest of it is aluminum and this is how they come they come with this o-ring in here and you basically just take that out and you can use it for exhaust just fine so that is what we're gonna build off of from there so i went to the gym got a table
