this is what holds our pavers in.

What happens here

Begin by preparing the fiber-reinforced concrete mix, such as the product known as "Perma Edge", strictly adhering to the manufacturer's instructions for mixing. If you are utilizing a pre-mixed product, simply ensure it is at the correct consistency and ready for immediate application. Using a sturdy shovel, scoop a generous amount of the prepared concrete. Carefully deposit this concrete into the previously prepared trench, pressing it firmly and intentionally against the side of the installed pavers. It is critically important to pack the concrete thoroughly to eliminate any potential air voids and to ensure maximum, continuous contact with the paver edge. The video prominently highlights a key characteristic of this specific type of concrete: it contains numerous small, locking fibers. These fibers, which become visible when a small section of the wet concrete is gently pulled apart, function much like microscopic rebar. They significantly enhance the concrete's tensile strength and its overall durability. This internal reinforcement is vital for preventing cracking and ensuring the paver edge remains exceptionally stable, effectively resisting lateral forces from foot traffic, soil expansion, or general ground movement. Continue this process of applying and compacting the concrete along the entire perimeter where edging is required, maintaining a consistent height and width to create a uniform and robust edge.

Goal: Secure pavers with durable fiber-reinforced concrete

Tools and materials

  • Gloves — Protecting hands from the corrosive nature of concrete
  • Safety Glasses — Protecting eyes from concrete splashes and dust
  • Shovel — Scooping and precisely placing the concrete mix into the trench
  • Trowel — Compacting the concrete to remove air voids and for initial shaping
  • Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Perma Edge — Creating a durable, reinforced edge restraint for pavers
