What happens here
This video details the careful demolition of a concrete stoop and surrounding landscaping blocks that are structurally tied to a house. It emphasizes the "selective demolition" aspect, requiring precision to avoid damaging the main house structure. The process involves initial landscaping removal, cutting the concrete with power tools, prying apart sections, and using heavy machinery to remove large pieces, including cutting through embedded rebar. This is presented as the first part of a two-part series, focusing solely on the demolition phase.

(9,957 characters)All right, first one out. Five more to go. >> No, I must I was just hitting something I didn't like. I was just trying to get I was You're good. I was just get that out of there. Sometimes you guys, I think I take for granted what I feel you guys probably already know and then I speed things up and I don't really show you the full details of what it takes to do some of the different kinds of work that we do. And so today I'm going to actually just let it play out in real time. And this is for those guys that may have never been out on a job site. What we're going to be doing is demolishing a stoop that's physically connected to a house. So, it's a little different than just going in and wham bam. Thank you, ma'am. We've got to be pretty careful about how we pull this off from the house so that we're not damaging the structure of the house. Ultimately, the goal that we're going to be doing in this two-part series is rebuilding not just the front stoop that you see here or are going to see here, but the entire front yard as well. But just for you guys that may not have as much experience out on a job site or let's say you're a business owner and you got a new hire or something like that and you just want a guy to see what it takes to be able to do something the right way. We're just going to let this one play out in real time and show you what how we tackle a kind of a difficult project that you can't do through normal means. This is selective demolition. This is careful demolition. This is extraction. This is removal when one structure is tied to another structure in a landscape setting. In a normal setting, you could just go in and use an excavator, grab and tear and lift and but in this case, we can't do any of those things. So, we're just going to let you see exactly what it takes for those skills for you guys that don't get to experience this kind of stuff on a day-to-day basis. So, let's not waste any more time. Let's just go. All right. Take you on a tour of the back half here. Sam and Bruce are figuring out some numbers up front and I'll show you what we did back here. Sorry, waiting on a card and camera wasn't charged. So, hence why we're on a backup supply. But, this is our new job. Back here was nothing but tra uh river rock and whatnot. And edging, normal edging here. A little bit of boulder edging like around this bush here was where the original was. And then we added in all this stuff. And then all this trap rock got added got added in as well. And then we did a little bit of black dirt just to lock in the front of the boulders. There it is. But I've been also doing a lot of running too. So I haven't been on site to keep up with the camera filming. But yeah, got this all done back here. This is done. now. And then this continued through here, but we put in new edging cuz they had bad edging in here or and then river rock or trap rock as well. That's all getting going around the whole house. But we need our path to run. So that's why this hasn't gotten in yet. >> Talking to yourself, man. >> I'm not talking to myself. I'm talking to the camera, introducing them to the site. >> No, you were doing a lot of run. uh doing running and we were waiting on a card here. >> But there was a patio here. We're going to demo this and this was all here and then in the previous you'll see you have seen we ripped out all these U's cuz this wall is getting done and then that wall down there is getting done as well. And that's up to speed on the side. >> That rebar in there. There ain't nothing under there. >> I wonder if the rebar is tied into the house. Probably not. >> No. >> Oh, you know what? Hold on. I got to pop this cap so it doesn't rub rub up against the siding when I smack her. Get my toy. There's just Yeah, there's that little sliver on either side, I think. >> Get my toy. >> Yeah, you and your >> pun pit. >> Yeah, the pun pit. >> Let's go smear smear some smear some poop on there and go bury the >> Bruce takes me out with it. Okay, >> you really got to go get that tet now if you're getting >> I got stabbed. I solved all his problems. >> Look for a house if you're dead. >> Yeah, no kidding. Does this outlet not freaking work? Why might outlets that don't freaking work? >> It might be tied to a light switch cuz that's how mine are at home. >> That's stupid. Oh, that one works. >> The other one might be tied to a switch. Yeah. So they polied it and they polied it up >> to the siding >> to the cedar up to the cedar siding. Look at that. All right. See what we got. Sh. Dang, you guys put those in there like I do. >> You're going to be totally irritating. >> I forgot. >> Stop it. Stop with the belt. >> Yeah, it's about to come off. >> It's catching a pin, I think. There we go. Oh, no pins. Glue. >> Well, they they did vertical, but they didn't do vertical, right? Oh, rain. >> Yeah. Your only thing you're prying off of is that top thing. Otherwise, everything else is That's just >> Well, there's no there's no base. It was nothing was buried. It was just sitting >> just floating. >> Oh, this is all on base. >> Yeah. No, no. I I mean, there wasn't a there wasn't a base course. >> That that bottom course was just sitting on top of the dirt. >> Yeah. >> So, we're we're going to put a base in there. We just put it back together like that. There you go. Good glue. Very good glue. >> That's pretty fun. >> Yes. >> I always like seeing what people did in like the 80s. A big old pocketed spray foam right there. >> Spray foam. >> Oh, they tried to mud jack it. >> Is that cool? Just flexing. Oh, there's no base. Wow, that is a ton of poly they got. Look at all that poly they packed up back in there. That didn't >> What do you think? There's like three bags just in this little area. >> I got no way. Look at all that. Look at all that polytric. It didn't even activate. All right. Watch your fingers. Oh, the things I do to like avoid walking across to the other side of the site to get get the big bar. Need to smack this off. Well, I got to double check that I ain't hitting the house. look at all this problem dumping back here. We saw all that. It didn't even activate. >> Ain't that something? Holy >> Like a half a bag at least. >> Tried to fill in all those little gaps in between the block. >> Get all the gaps. >> 40 bags of poly. >> Okay. Well, that's probably one of the easier freaking stoop demos I've ever done. Face. What's that? Or face course. What's that? Is >> there like this poly? Holy Brush. >> There's like Look at all that. It's going all the way back, too. That's why there's >> Look at all this poly. >> Oh man, >> that's like 4 in. >> Look at that. Oh man. Oh, there's more. >> It never got wet to begin with. >> No, this is just over the years. >> That's what I'm saying. It's just packed itself. Oh my god. That ate That is just eating that siding away. >> Yeah. Flexing the whole thing with a pry bar. Any rebar or we just hitting >> No, that was Man, that really felt like rebar in some spots, but I might have >> just been a natural stone. >> It could have been. It looks I might basically just run your hand through there and if you get cut, you found rebar. That rebar right there. No, that must that was just hitting something I didn't like. All right. Well, so get the get the forks and get that out of here and I'll bust this bit up. >> Brush. Hey, we need forks. >> Okay. >> I was just trying to get I was You're good. I was >> Get that out of there. Damn, that's a pretty right there. Make sure nobody's home. it supports the whole way to the ASV. Not that the ASB weighs a lot. Cool. That's quite a bit of lightning. All right. Here. Not working in there. >> No, I just got a little hammer. There we go. One more. No, it's cracking. One more. You got it. One more drop. It's It's cracked up pretty good there. Wow. Maybe they're >> either that or just mash it. >> Oh yeah, they might have that mess here. Heat. Heat. He's trying to hopefully make it have it snap. There we go. Oh, it is rebar. Holy crap. Wow. That's a lot of rebar. Holy. All right. one bit of rebar. We were cutting cutting it long ways. That's a beefy little steel, man. I'm trying to think if I pan one in three >> and that small. >> Yeah. Kudos to whoever poured that in. That That would explain why it wasn't sinking like everything else. >> Yeah. Rebard to the house. Now, you've seen us peel this stoop apart, and now you know exactly what it takes to do it. Um, but on the next video, we're going to completely rebuild this entire front yard. We are going to take everything, including the stoop, and it's going to be a total and utter transformation. So, the next video is going to feel a little bit different because we are going to speed things up just to show you how we get from point A to point B without taking a whole lot of time. But I hope you guys enjoyed this video where we just slowed things down for you guys and let you just experience by curiously through the video what it takes to to do what we had to do in this portion of today's project. So look for part two coming down the pipeline, but in between there I may throw in a couple cool tool videos or something along those lines. But either way, I hope you guys enjoy going along for the ride and I hope you can learn something through the experiences of just watching how other people do things. I think I got to get back to my things are beeping. But anyway, God bless and go get him, you guys. We'll see you on another one.
