This beam was too heavy for us to lift, so we had to make some accommodations!

What happens here

With the gantry and hoist prepared, the large wooden beam, which will serve as a primary support for the deck, is carefully moved into a position directly underneath the chain hoist. Although not explicitly shown, robust lifting straps or chains would then be securely attached around the beam at balanced points, and hooked to the chain hoist. Multiple workers then coordinate their efforts to operate the chain hoist, slowly pulling its chain to lift the heavy beam off the ground.

Goal: Safely lift the heavy wooden beam to the necessary height for installation.

Tools and materials

  • Chain Hoist — Providing mechanical advantage for lifting the beam
  • Hard Hat — Protection from potential falling objects during overhead work
  • Heavy Wooden Beam — The primary structural component being installed
  • Lifting Straps / Chains — Securing the beam to the chain hoist
  • Safety Gloves — Protecting hands during material handling and hoist operation
