What happens here

This project details the process of repairing severe winter damage to a rental cabin, including replacing a blown furnace and addressing frozen water lines that caused burst pipes and fixtures. It involves installing an innovative in-pipe heating system for freeze protection and replacing damaged plumbing components. The video also shares a personal story about overcoming business challenges.

all right guys we're going to go inside I'm going to give you a tour of Shang Gage cuz it's finally going to be open for business just push it right in not something happened here something happened I just fell apart because if you get the wrong stuff it it could it could burn up your house almost three grand yeah just for that just for the heat tape just to go from here to there guess that's what it costs that [Music] up it's been tough which means to me it's right the right thing to do because the tougher something is the more things are trying to hold you back from accomplishing it well let me just back this up some of you guys have been following along and know that my cabin up north we turning into an Airbnb and it's called shangra Lodge but our very first customer it was yeah okay so I'm getting I'm this is a tough story to tell the very first person to rent our cabin rented it from March 15th through April 15th for an entire month which was a giant red flag I mean we've got we've got to rent it out here and there over the course of the summer but we're not marketing it and March 15th to April 15th is the worst time of the year you could possibly ever rent a cabin up in northern Minnesota you can't go on the ice everywhere you go as a mud hole because everything the ground is Tha so it was a big red flag but it was open those dates and this guy came in said he was going to rent it then didn't go through Airbnb at all and now this story just kept getting more red flags and more red flags he sends us a check directly and the amount of money he was supposed to send us for that time frame was like 15 grand he sends us a check for $26,000 and here's where it gets even weirder that a lot of people could get hurt and that's why I'm telling you this story it's a cash years check so a cash years check can be cancelled at any time he says in his text message in his email correspondence to us that he mistakenly overpaid and the rest of the money was supposed to go to his trip advisor he's paying n Grand or 10 grand or 11 Grand to a Trip Advisor whatever that was and can we send him the difference in a refund absolutely freaking not we can't send you the difference in a refund don't ever trust a cash years check please if you guys ever get a cash years check that's a red flag because of the ability to cancel it so really what this guy was trying to do he paid us then we were supposed to mail him a valid check he would deposit it that would go in before his date coming up March 15th and then he would cancel the cashier check so he would make I don't know 9 10 11 Grand off from us and then he would disappear that's what I think was going to happen with this guy so to offset it we said nah we voided the check sent him a picture of the voided check and send us send the right amount so that our records correspond and match up that was an excuse for us to not do what he wanted to do and guess what we never heard from this guy again but that's not the hardest part about what's been going on recently up north before any of this happened we had the furnace go out in the upper cabin so we've got a cabin up up Top Cabin down below and although they're separate units they're connected by one waterline so this cabin the furnace went out up top and then the plumbing froze so my toilet shattered my faucets shattered the furnace just kicked out for no reason just gone done so I had to replace that furnace which is you know I mean that's a $14,000 bill in and of itself fixing the furnace and air conditioner but when this cabin froze the water line that connects it to this lower cabin Froze all the way down then it froze underground and then it froze all the way to the lower cabin so the lower cabin was fine but now we don't have water and it's buried underground so we have to do a retro system to get it to be repaired so we've got the line thaw but now we've got to put something in place that will protect it from ever happening again and I'm not digging this thing up and wrapping it with heat tape because that's really what should be done the line itself is insulated everything is insulated it's just the fact that the frost started when this cabin froze and it went penetrated underground so that line keeps freezing so we got toilets to repair we got faucets to repair we've got a water line that we've got to fix we've got people trying to scam so the entire idea of this Airbnb is been one thing after another which tells me the forces that be are trying to stop me from doing something that I should probably not give up on because if they're working that hard to prevent me from doing it there's got to be a reason so you could look at it like oh these are signs to stop or you can look at it like these are signs to work even harder at it which would you take those signs as stop or double down because you're that close to being successful right if I quit I'll never know what could be but if I Barrel through this and I don't let anything hold me back and we get it done and we get this up then I'll be able to at least have an adequate measure of failure or success but I won't give up before I give it everything I've got so let's go get some toilets let's get some ly thought let's go north let's just do that now about a month ago we had a cold snap that froze the water lines blew out the furnace let me show you what we had to do for you guys that don't live in cold is once we finally get the water unthawed we can't stop it running so you continue to let it run so in this case we have the shower we've got the shower running in the shower room and once we get that water to flow you don't unflower freeze but but by allowing it to continue to flow you can keep those water lines open but let me just show you what we've got going on with uh our situation here morning Frankie Frankie is already hard at it so there's one water line that serves both cabins the water line comes into that cabin right where Frankie's at sitting underneath there and then it comes straight down here into this well pit right here and one once the Frost gets into the ground underneath it's not getting out so the the line froze we now have frozen water so we're going to we're going to retrofit a line inside of the waterline now here's the thing don't just go doing this you can order this stuff off Amazon I would not recommend it I would not recommend the products they have on Amazon they're junk they're garbage morning Franky [Applause] morning so this is where she froze right well fro yeah froze from here down yeah and we have the other side was the first side that froze though we have two lines in place just in case one froze up we had a backup line both froze up yeah so cuz that's how hard this cabin froze we'll go inside and in a moment I'm going to go inside the cabin I'm going to show these guys what all the D any of the faucets have damage on them Frankie no so we so we didn't have any blown faucets no we had one one line underneath so it's just the toilets left this the toilet broke yeah all right well I got two of the same exact toilet I got them I got them unpackaged and ready to go in oh you've already been doing that all right see master bedroom looks okay no floors buckled here's the new toilet okay so that's the one we're putting in right now let see if we can get the toilet set today too lot of work to do here today oh here's our brand new furnace does that look like it's worth $114,000 to you cuz that's what it cost that this I can't make this stuff up premium price for manufactured home furnace and let's see toilet 2 that toilet didn't bust but the tank broke so we got to fix that oh well always fun right always fun let's see how it looks so from the master bedroom right here this is what you wake up to that's your view we've got a SAA wood burning on I've never been in it but somebody's going to have fun here all right let's get the lines fixed and then we'll give you a complete tour of the of the place after we get stuff put back together got to full day though was that the heat tape right there Frankie heat tape is kind of garbage isn't it yeah I mean for yeah I they're all right if you just got a little short run or something on so we were going to use the same stuff that we got here is what is it's called heat line this stuff is freaking made out of gold I mean that the price they charge for it Frankie oh my god there needs to be another alternative there will be there will be once they once people start you know so that works so this is made in Canada and if the tariffs go through this like this box right here this this setup right here was what was it like almost three grand yeah just for that just for the heat tape just to go from here to there yep and then you add a 25% tariff on top of that and boom somebody in the United States is going to be building a better version cheaper cuz but don't buy the Amazon crap because if you get the wrong stuff it it could it could burn up your house and I've heard this is what I've heard that it may not be covered by uh Insurance yeah all right so here's the big thing about this is it actually goes inside of your existing water line so if I was going to do freeze protection on this line without this I would have to dig the line all the way up from here to there and then insulate it and heat tape it and wrap it around it which could be perfectly fine and if you're going to insulate it make sure you use the solid the polystyrene not the not not not the not the pink stuff that moves in groov not like that stuff don't use that to insulate underground because once that pink stuff compresses it loses it it's insulation but I don't feel like digging up this entire line from there to there trying to recover it especially when it's frost and snow and what have you with this you can fish it through the line and it can permanently stay inside of your water line and it's safe for drinking water that may be why it's so expensive uh to use it but some places some people some of you guys may not have options and if you didn't know about this that's called heat line freeze protection system made in Canada so get it before the tariffs go on or or after they become our 51st state okay well this is the Theros that I'm not seeing a te I just look in here see how see there's a te right there yeah we might have to get it the one thing I will say about these heat line guys they called me I had to talk to them on the phone like five different times they don't screw up so everything is they've already got everything already set for us inside of here so this is how we get in to the line yeah are this is what's going into the this will go into the pipe this is our water line coming to the house yep cuz there's nothing in you know yep so all right guys I'm going to jump in here cuz while we're trying to fish that line through there's something I want to show you and by the way fishing that line through doesn't go nearly as good as we had hoped but I want to let you guys know if you're new to my channel my name is Stan genetic the dirt monkey and I am a lifelong contractor and I face the problems that many lifelong contractors have and that's making sure that I always have money in the bank to buy my mat materials to pay my guys to run my business now in the past you would have to go to a bank and get an open line of credit those days are over there's a new program out there and it's called revenu and what makes this program unique is the fact that this is not a loan it's a flexible line with a business card so you can use this for anything you want you apply online and you can get approved in as little 24 hours but let me show you exactly what I mean it's a new way of working capital we utilize Revenue based financing to get your business funding it needs in the form of an investment not a loan that means they purchase a portion of your future receivables to provide you with working capital let me break this down for you if you have $100,000 that people owe you on the books that's that's what revenu measures and they that gives them the ability to go hey wait You' got this amount of money coming in they can provide you financing faster and easier and less expensive than going to a bank and trying to get a loan there's no comparison between the two things here they've got people real support from real humans and fast and easy application process apply online and receive a funding decision in as little as an hour with our secure application upon approval you'll receive a login and be able to access funds for your business within 24 hours and here's where it gets cool they'll send you a debit card credit card whatever you want to call it a card and you could take that card and spend it wherever you want you want to go buy stuff at Home Depot it's your money you're just basically using it you're getting access to the people that you're getting access to your money before the people actually send send you your own money revenu is taking that into account to make sure that you have access right away for your own money money and when you go over there tell them the dirt monkey sent you it doesn't do doesn't help you in any way shape or form I'm going to be honest with you you don't get any credit for it you don't get anything special for it but these guys are helping sponsor the channel and the channel I'm bringing up controversial topics I'm addressing stuff headon that other content creators are tiptoeing around and because I've been not afraid to do that my Channel's also been punished by the powers that be inside of the algorithm I used to get an average of 150,000 views per video and that has changed so connecting with companies like Revenue that help support this channel help me keep going okay and if you enjoy this content let them know where you found it from that's all I'm asking you but more importantly this is a company that I I do recommend it's a good company they've got a great way of working and it's much better than the Alternatives that we used to have to go to and that was trying to go to a bank and showing two years of uh of uh tax returns and trying to get an open line of credit and justifying it this 24 hours boom you've got something in your hand and you can use it anywhere you want it's your own money it's called revenu with a d revenue.com re v n u D.C it doesn't get easier than that let's jump back in here and see how we're doing with this uh line we're closer but we're also line day two which should have been a three-hour job of course in typical UPN North fashion everything is more difficult how you doing down there Frankie close they're close I'm going to put fitting on on this first on the house first okay so let's we've got it took us a while to get it fish through because we had a kink in the line water line somewhere not even a kink just something now we've got the actual the line fish through here's the actual connection this gets plugged into the house and then we that's a thermostat then right and then we got to hook the thermostat up oh this ain't the thermostat that's not the thermostat that's the make it go button oh they got a test steel here yeah well we got to we got to actually hook the thermostat up then the thermostat gets is stays down in the crawl space so the thermostat reads the air temperature not the water temperature oh okay so yeah so we want it yeah yeah so we probably want it on this wall then or something yep you know that outside wall can you put it can be mounted outside or no uh well I think it sure can I mean the way it looks I no I wouldn't put it outside outside by any means I would Mount so here's the thermostat so after you get it plugged in this plugs into that plugs into the thermostat right here thermostat has a bracket which mounts to the wall which reads the temperature which activates the heat what's that gray wire that's the thermostat that's the temperature center sensor oh okay so we can mount that in here so it don't get wet to damag well the temperature sensor yeah we don't want this getting wet or damaged but that can be I mean then we'll run this out that hole or something put it right out out out on the outside of this wall would it be better having it outside or inside it might be colder inside all the time yeah cuz once this door closed we'll never be in here again right well hopefully not okay Frankie and I have both been down in that hole underneath the cabin all over but like I said on a scale hey Frankie on a scale of 1 to 10 if it was a normal install for normal people what would your rate this should be I thought it would be I think we could have got it done I mean with everything with three about three three hours I think we should have been able to but now we're on day two because this this cabin fights us every way St never doing it before I mean but I mean if a guy like the next time we have you know we know for a new guy coming in what what on a scale of one to 10 one being uh you know well I'll give you a hint blow suck a line a line through a string line through if you got a long run if you got like a 50ft run or less I try to shove it through yeah it would shove through just fine but without and and and I you know once we hit that one in line we had no problems it's just yeah you know we got 3/4 in water that's if you got a one in line it's going to be easier over 50 foot I would say pull put a string in yeah and pull help pull so if 10 was the most difficult if a guy was going to take this on himself what would you say what would you think this is the next one I'd go I'd have to go four four five that's what I was thinking exactly yeah yep yep just because it only be my second time but yeah well even if it was the first time it's not a difficult install but when you're dealing with plumbing and fixtures and cold I need them channel locks boy I tell you it makes a big difference all right here we go while Frankie is doing that I'm going to go in and start bleeding the air out of all of the lines Frankie I'm going to go inside and bleed the air out in the cabin yeah yeah all right that's fine and then we got to get this one hooked back up all right guys we're going to go inside I'm going to give you a tour of Shang G Lage cuz it's finally going to be open for business come this spring starting around April so if you're interested in it you can check it out on Airbnb but let's just give you a quick outside brief tour of what we've got going on we'll go inside here for a moment so we've got beds all over in this place um and I'll show them to you and you can decide what you want to do so full kitchen lower cabin so when you rent this you're getting two cabins you're not just going to be getting one cabin they're they come as a package deal so both cabins and really it was set up for a family to come in you know it was meant for two families to come in hang out enjoy their each other's company one family can have the lower cabin and the other family can have the upper cabin but as we go up here watch your head that's the downfall but this one this place you can in The Loft we've got a couple beds perched up in The Loft so one two beds there perfect for kids then we've got a futon in the upper Loft sorry my daughter's been sleeping up here recently so the upper Loft has three beds so that you can uh if you wanted to have a party up there or sleep up there take the party out I don't want parties in here so the lower cabin has a total of I don't even know how many beds like seven beds three upstairs and then we got a full refrigerator we've got a the wife and I we poured these countertops that was a blast Stone coat I would do it all over again um we got cable TV and my favorite part about this cabin is a 360° view of the lake with two here you got a full view of that Lake and then the docks I have I actually have them lined up so it creates a marina for kids little…
