What happens here
Carefully consider which types of seeds are best suited for the Jiffy peat pellets. Small seeds, such as those for peppers (e.g., Ferry-Morse 'California Wonder 300 TMR'), tomatoes (e.g., Ferry-Morse 'Roma VF'), wildflowers, and clover, are ideal. Larger seeds like beans (e.g., Ferry-Morse 'Blue Lake 274 Bush'), squash (e.g., Ferry-Morse 'Dark Green Zucchini' or 'Yellow Squash'), or sunflower seeds are generally too big. If the seed is larger than a popcorn kernel, its root system will quickly outgrow the small peat pellet, making early transplanting necessary and negating the benefits of the kit.
Goal: Choose seeds that are suitable for starting in peat pellets.
Tools and materials
- Large Seeds — Not recommended for this kit; better for direct planting in a garden
- Small Seeds — Suitable for starting in small peat pellets due to their size
