What happens here
This video details a personal account of identity theft and check fraud experienced by the speaker. It covers his interactions with law enforcement, the shocking scope of the criminal's activities (impacting over 70 victims), and how crucial surveillance footage from a convenience store (Kwik Trip) led to the perpetrator's capture. The speaker also provides general advice on protecting oneself from identity theft by checking mail and credit reports.

(10,920 characters)i'm pretty torqued about having my id stolen am i understanding the story correct my passport stolen and i'm sitting with the detective right now thousands of dollars in checks written out in my name which is legitimately right under third degree murder we will get to see the person that did this oh yeah all right that's where today's story is gonna take place i'm going in right now to meet with a detective that called me up out of the blue so if you guys are just tuning in a few weeks back i had the truck completely loaded to the hill ready to go up north the only thing i had to left to put in the truck were my two dogs they happened to be waiting right by the door of the house my truck was parked about 20 feet away i walked from the truck to the house opened up the door went in grabbed the two dogs put them on leashes this may have taken about 60 seconds to do turned around walked outside with the dogs but that's all the time that this gal needed to swoop by my truck jump in grab my backpack grab my wallet grab my cameras grab all of my important gear out of the truck and to take off down the road now this event is completely separate from having my trailer stolen up north in fact this gal had gotten caught before my trailers had gotten stolen now these two events were a hundred miles apart and i believe they're completely unrelated bad luck yes but two unrelated events nevertheless well the story goes deeper i got a call randomly out of the blue from a detective pike and he had ran a search warrant on a car that he suspected of being involved in some crimes my name came up and uh they had written even more fraudulent checks on my account there's one let's see here's another one fifty two hundred dollars well there's even more and i asked about what was going on and uh if i could go down to the police station and identify the guy and he said you can but it's a girl and she's ripped off 60 other people in the neighborhood in the twin cities metropolitan area which we're gonna go find out if we can find out the rest of the story but until this case is closed the detective is not interested in being on camera so i'm going to respect that first time i got to find out where the heck the police department is he thinks with all the police vehicles and the weird part is he's in new brighton i didn't even go to heights tank hi i got some documents for detective pike detective pica yeah oh sure let me go get a pica detective pica so when he comes i gotta turn the camera off just out of respect but what i will try to do is find out what's going on with the rest of this story what happened share that with you guys i want to see if there's any pointers of ways to protect yourself against this i was just talking with uh garrett from g m outdoor services and uh if you haven't caught that story he's a 21 year old kid he's run now built his own three million dollar a year company but off camera he told me because i was explaining what happened here he said he parked his truck stepped outside of his truck to pick up the job the shovels that were on his tool site he didn't he just walked across the street to pick them up threw them in his truck and when he walked back into his truck his wallet his id everything was stolen and that's not that surprising just on the news yesterday just in minneapolis there have been 524 carjackings year to date and these are like the grand theft auto people walking up to cars with people in them yanking them out of their cars throwing them on the street and getting in their car and driving away 524 only in minneapolis alone so crime is going crazy crazy all right well i'll put this back on after i talk to the detective pika and find out what is going on okay so if i'm understanding this so judy moe is another victim in this time right okay so detective pika you're not gonna be on camera so they made one out to 40 so and what they did i'm sitting with the detective right now what they did was they made a check out to me right and they use my id to try to cache it is that is that am i understanding the story correct not in this case the other one yes in the other case okay i have never heard of that before i just learned that there are over 70 victims involved with this crime and it goes he explained that it's a oh how he caught him i asked how he caught him quick trip caught him because from quick trip quick trips surveillance cameras picked up the people so when the detective for the mendota heights police department was telling me that sometimes they can catch him using surveillance cameras from some of the places that they that the criminals are going to that's exactly how they caught these these criminals and there is the potential they've got one main one main person and they've got her on the hook um and they're getting ready to charge her but there is a whole ring of people that she was supplying information too i don't want to talk too much about it right here but i will talk about it more in just a moment holy crap look at this so this is the sentencing guidelines and this gal has offended over eight people which puts her at aggravated robbery which is legitimately right under third degree murder there's third degree murder this is the category she falls in she'll get a minimum of 48 months in prison or up to 108 months in prison and i'm gonna be right there with the key in my hand and turning the lock and waving goodbye i'm gonna follow this thing all the way through and when as soon as the charges go get put on her i'm gonna show her to you guys yes i am that's probably not smart she's probably got some pretty big brothers and uncles and fathers that would be pretty torqued about that but i'm pretty torqued about having my id stolen my passport stolen thousands of dollars in checks written out in my name oh and speaking of which so what they did was they wrote checks out to me and then they would use my id to go try to cash those checks and they were making checks out to me on my own account so they would use one business account gt lawns make a check out to me try to cash the check to me um here's so let me show you something i want you guys to be respectful the people in these checks these are also victims so unfortunately these are people that have had their identification stolen so these aren't these are some of the 70 plus victims uh leon myers he's one of the 70 victims this other gal the judy mo that we saw earlier she's one of the 70 victims so here's how these other people were the victims as well as i was though their identification was stolen just like mine was and what the thieves and crooks were doing was they were writing checks from one account that they stole from to the identification of someone else that they stole from and never revealing their true identification it was just putting another layer of protection between themselves and the potential of getting caught but they screwed up when they went to quick trip he's one of the 70 victims and it was all big thanks to to right here quick trip okay quick trip is after me for fifty dollars and fourteen cents but what happened was the way they caught them was somebody got their id stolen checkbook stolen and they went right down to quick trip and they cashed a check at quick trip and when it was reported they pulled up the surveillance footage and kwik trip works extensively with different police departments to help them quell things like this they got a visual id on the person then the police officer detective pica uh was able to um to do a search on their car and he said it was jackpot he said it just kept coming up um victim after victim after victim i mean this gal right here since she hurt over eight people this is the minimum if she has no criminal history she will serve 48 months in prison this is the only only worst thing is third degree murder right above it second degree murder is above that but if she's got here's her criminal history score so depending on what her history is if she's got you know just a few points against her if she's got six points against her or more 108 months in prison and he said it's basically the same as if she held a gun to somebody's head and said give me all your money aggravated assault aggravated robbery first degree burglary first degree with the weapon or assault wow oh boy so now this gal has not been officially charged yet but as soon as she becomes officially charged it becomes public record and anybody can look her up so if you guys want to do a little research on your own you can check the i think i think this is all being taken place at the new brighton police department and you may be able to see her just as soon as i see her now i did ask the detective how we could protect ourselves against fraud and crime like this i id theft um and he said there's two things that you should do one is just he repeated what the mendota heights police officer said is if you have outgoing mail never put up your red flag never do that that's just a flag an invitation to crooks to come and steal your mail which is a way of getting your id but another thing he said that if you have been a victim of theft or identification theft like this to check your credit score because what these thieves are doing is they're opening up lines of credit in your name now every year you can do one you get one free credit report i think one of them is experian um the other one is securian and i can't remember the name of the third place so if you guys know put it in the comments down below but check those credit reports and see if any strange or unusual activity is happening on your accounts because what these thieves are doing is they're opening up lines of credit at target at walmart and all of the different places and then they're using that as a way of cashing out against your name so just to make sure that you guys are safe and secure and as soon as i know more about what's going on with this one i will definitely keep you informed what detective pika wants to do is he's trying to make an airtight case he doesn't think that this will go to trial but he wants to make sure that if it does go to trial that she doesn't get away so he's putting together as much information as he can and this is the only case that he's worked on for the last four months so hopefully it'll be all wrapped up in a nice tidy bowl and hopefully we can visit this one last time and find out exactly what happens with this case hope you guys stay safe out there god bless thanks for going along for the ride and i'll keep you updated as i learn more go get them you guys hit that like button and uh let me know let me hear your stories down below because i know there's so much of this happening right now it's crazy i think it's the worst it's ever been i don't know just personally i think it's the worst that it's ever been stay safe you guys
