The SIMPLEST Way To Install A Paver Walkway (That Won't Sink!)

What happens here

After the main paver pattern is laid, an edge restraint system is installed along the perimeter of the pathway to prevent pavers from shifting outwards. This system typically consists of plastic or metal borders secured with spikes. Once the edge restraints are in place, polymeric sand is spread evenly across the entire paver surface using a broom, ensuring that all joints are thoroughly filled. Any excess sand is then swept off the surface, and the pathway is lightly misted with water to activate the polymeric sand, causing it to harden and lock the pavers securely in place.

Goal: Stabilize the paver pathway, prevent weed growth, and enhance durability.

Tools and materials

  • Broom — Sweeping polymeric sand into joints and removing excess
  • Edge restraint system — Preventing pavers from shifting outwards
  • Hose with spray nozzle — Lightly misting polymeric sand to activate it
  • Spikes — Securing the edge restraint
