Begin by thoroughly planning the entire outdoor living space. This includes sketching detailed layouts for all hardscaping elements such as pathways, patio areas, the fire pit location, and the outdoor kitchen structure. Research and obtain all necessary local building permits and approvals before any physical work begins. Critically, identify and mark the locations of all existing underground utilities (electrical, gas, water, sewage) to prevent damage during excavation. Develop a comprehensive grading plan to ensure proper drainage away from the house and structures, which may involve using a laser level or transit for accuracy. Select all hardscaping materials, lighting fixtures, fire features, and outdoor kitchen appliances at this stage.
Goal: Develop a comprehensive plan and prepare the site for construction of the outdoor living space.
