The most tedious part of a paver patio project. #hardscape #paverpatio

What happens here

After the initial spreading of polymeric sand, use a plate compactor to vibrate the pavers. This mechanical action causes the polymeric sand to settle deeper into the paver joints. The video indicates that without this step, sand might appear to fill the joints completely from the surface but would actually only be partially filled from the bottom, leading to instability.

Goal: Settle the polymeric sand deep into the paver joints.

Tools and materials

  • Eye Protection — Protecting eyes from airborne dust/sand
  • Hearing Protection — Protecting ears from compactor noise
  • Plate Compactor — Vibrating pavers to settle polymeric sand into joints
  • Protective Mat for Compactor — Preventing damage to paver surfaces during compaction
