What happens here
First, use a tape measure to determine the maximum width of the gap between the last installed paver and the boulder. In the video, this measurement is shown to be approximately 2 to 2.5 inches. This measurement serves as an offset. Then, take a paver that needs to be cut and place it next to the last full paver, as close to the boulder as possible. Using a small piece of stone or a dedicated scribe tool, hold it against the irregular edge of the boulder. Simultaneously, hold a metal straight edge (or a pencil against the scribe tool) against the paver, maintaining the measured offset distance. Drag the scribe tool along the boulder's edge, allowing the straight edge/pencil to mark the exact contour onto the paver. This creates a custom cut line that mirrors the boulder's shape.
Goal: This step details how to accurately measure the gap between the existing pavers and the boulder, then transfer this irregular shape onto a new paver using a tape measure and a scribe tool.
