The goal is for framing to be as straight and flat as possible, and these joists make that easy!

What happens here

Blocking, also known as nogging, is installed between the main joists. These shorter pieces of lumber add rigidity to the deck frame, prevent joists from twisting or warping, and provide additional nailing surfaces for deck boards. The worker uses a hammer to tap the blocking into place, ensuring a snug fit, then secures them with a nail gun.

Goal: Add rigidity and stability to the deck frame, and prevent joist twisting.
