What happens here

This project provides step-by-step instructions on how to set up, operate, and effectively use an Orsi Energy 155 ditch bank flail mower attached to a garden tractor. The process involves connecting the mower to the tractor's 3-point hitch and hydraulic system, then demonstrating its articulated movement and pulverizing cutting action for clearing overgrown grass and brush on challenging terrain like ditch banks and pond banks.

You need a ditch bank mower, maybe this is the one for you. It It just pulverizes the grass. >> I ain't afraid of ain't afraid of I ain't afraid to get the job done. [Music] I ain't afraid of times like Welcome back to another gorgeous day on the Stony Ridge Farm. Today's Tool Tuesday, as we said earlier, and this is the Orsy ditch bank mower. This is called the Orsy Energy ditch bank mower. It is a beast. It's the 155 model. It is 61 in. Here are our grease points on this critter. We've got a hydraulic arm here and a hydraulic arm right here. One hydraulic arm makes it move back and forth this way and the other one makes it go that way. And then the three-point makes it go up and down. So, we can offset this mower off to the side of the tractor and mow the ditch banks. Now, it has a roller built in right here. That roller just rolls right along the ground. It's just a little bit lower than the cutting blades on this mower. And these cutting blades kind of swing freely underneath here. You'll see that here in just a minute. I have tested this. I tried it out yesterday to see if I could get it wrapped up in some barb wire, and I was unsuccessful at wrapping up barb wire, which is cool, right? Um, I'm happy with this mower. Uh just again testing it yesterday. I just ran down the embankments on the side of the gravel road down here. It did fantastic. I've got a pond over here. I've got ditch banks that need to be mowed. Sometimes I'll take the Ventra tractor over there and do that. But the pond banks get a little unstable. So if you know, don't get your tractor near a pond. It's a bad idea. You can back your rotary cutter into a pond and tear it all to pieces and tear you all to pieces. So, uh, unless you have really, really good insurance from Farm Bureau, right? My buddy John's a Farm Bureau agent. So, this has a gearbox on it. Uh, simply enough, the gearbox has a little tilt up feature right here. So, you can tip it all the way up. You can mow in an upright position. In other words, you can mow the edge of some hedges with it. So, you can bring it up if you've got hedges reaching over in or you need to get some brush back off the edge of a fence line, something like that. That's where this mower will tend to shine. So, without further ado, we're going to take it over here near the pond and we are going to mow a little ditch bank with it and give it a little test run. I did use this yesterday out in the pasture. And I will say this, really, really tall, thick grass, you're going to have to go really slow. It will bunch up. It doesn't bog or anything. The tractor's got plenty of power. And this is set for a 18 to, I believe, 35 horsepower. So, if you got a really small tractor, a subcompact tractor, this will work with it. Really, really cool. 61inch wide cut. Just wide enough to cover the path of this tractor. Now, again, I don't think that this is the tool that you need if you are mowing thick, heavy, tall grass and brush. I just don't think it is. If you're mowing a ditch bank, I think it is. If you're mowing a pond bank, I think it is. But if you're using it as your sole cutting machine for uh brush hogging or whatever, don't let your grass get too high. Don't let it get this high because you're going to have to go a quarter of a mile an hour. It's not going to be fun. So, let's go over and put her to work. Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Hey, hey. [Music] How are you? [Music] Woo, baby. Well, I think the proof's in the pudding right here. I mowed the ditch just fine. I cannot get a regular rotary cutter down into this ditch like this. I've been doing it with the Ventrak tractor, but it sure is nice to be able to do it with a farm tractor. I like how it reaches way out uh from the side. Really did a fantastic job. It It just pulverizes the grass. In other words, it doesn't leave like a trail uh like a regular mower would do. It pulverizes the grass. I'll come out here now with my batwing and finish off this little pasture right here. And um let's just show you what it looks like from the back. Uh it did a great job. I liked how it articulated up and down. Now, I will tell you this, there's a learning curve to using this thing. You have to figure out how to run your hydraulics for your particular tractor. I think it helps to have it in float mode. The way it lays down, in other words, you just click it into float mode and it kind of just floats over top of whatever embankment that you go over. If you hit a bump, it'll just roll right over it. The roller right here prevents it from gouging into the ground. You can see the roller is probably that far lower or that much lower than the cutting blades right there. So, pretty cool. I like it. I like it a lot. It looks like you can reverse the cutting blades on this um from what I can tell. So, if they get dull, you could just flip them and you can sharpen them yourself. So, way cool, guys. That is the Orsy Energy 155. I'll post a link in the video description. Uh pretty happy with it. pretty happy with it. Thank you guys for watching Tool Tuesday. If you need a Ditchbank mower, maybe this is the one for you. I don't know. Do your research. I'm part of it. Thank you guys so much. Please hit that like button. I hope you'll subscribe to the channel here. Love to have you back on the Stony Ridge Farm with me. Take care. Woo! >> Come on down to Stony Ridge. Bring your wife and Stony Ridge. That's what I call high quality starting. >> It's getting hot in here, so get all your mowing done. I'm booting up.
