What happens here

This video documents the construction of a dirt bridge or stream crossing in a wooded area on a farm. The process involves identifying a suitable location, using heavy machinery like a dump truck and a skid steer to move large quantities of dirt and rocks, and overcoming challenges such as equipment getting stuck in mud. The main goal is to create a functional and stable crossing over a stream, improving accessibility on the farm.

hey there folks this is Josh Stoney Ridge farmer welcome back to the farm today we're taking the Kubota at X 1140 over to the dirt pile so we've got some dirt that we can use for filter and over here on the farm and we're going to be repairing a bridge that almost totally washed out with this huge rainstorm we recently had so come along today as we get a little bit of work done I'm traveling down a road that we built here on the farm probably about two years ago and way back in the woods absolutely beautiful looks like in my rain we'll cross our fingers but today we're going to get a little bit of work done and we're going to work with mater we're going to call the old dump truck we just bought we're going to call him mater so we're going to take mater load him up and we're gonna fix this bridge up here it's gonna be a good time alright we'll need to free to word ain't afraid of please ain't afraid to get the job done and we ain't afraid of loud times like this [Music] you mess up my freedom I chain as well chicken keys okay guys so here we are there's a beautiful waterfall just down the creek right here it's just an awesome spot one of our most favorite places on the farm with the exception of when it floods water gets way up right here like really bad so we've got ridges up both sides of the farm right here and basically all the water from those ridges comes right down here into the creek the ponds were overflowing the last time we had a huge rain and it was just a disaster so you can see let's walk over here a little bit you can see kinda all the debris that's up in the trees right here that's what happened this Creek was not this big two months ago it really expanded the creek so I've already kind of got a start on this and I thought man what better idea to make a video than to show you guys what we're doing so there are two pipes to 24-inch pipes in the ground right here which makes a 48 inch pipe that's a big pipe that's a lot of water and what happened was I've got riprap rock over here on this side it did well I had riff-raff Rock right here rip wrath however you say it supposed to comment but that washed out right down here so what we've got to do is fill in this hole and get back in the creek and throw all that rip wrath back up on this embankment and my plan is to take some concrete and pour over top of this so that hopefully we don't have this washing problem anymore what the challenge today is is getting that big dump truck backed all the way in here and it's not too bad but what I'm going to be doing is taking the John Deere skid steer the 250 and we're going to be loading mater up and we're going to be dumping dirt on this and we'll bring the skid loader over and we'll spread it out and we'll try to build this bridge up just a little bit and get it back in good shape so that we can use it and not have to worry about running off in the ditch all right so let's go over and fire up mater we're leaving the bridge area and we've got about a 200 yard drive to where got the dump truck and the skid loader all staged up for us if you're new to the channel now's a chance there's a little icon down there it says subscribe jump in here and subscribe pound the like button if you like this kind of stuff man this is just a country boys paradise right here country girl - so what we have or city girls no matter city boy I've got folks that subscribe to the channel that live in Manhattan it's just super to take you guys on this adventure so what we have here is mater mater is rusty he's crusty he's old he's a circa 1978 ish dump truck and this is our john deere skid steer 250 and where it's still looking for a name for little skinny Bob here I'm thinking about skinny Bob I kind of like it so there's some secrets to getting this guy running this big old boy right here we'll kind of take you around if you didn't see the video that me a link at the end of this video we pulled this thing out of the bushes and got it running and drove it home and now it's our farm dump truck and I can't wait to use it really this is going to be the first time first project that I've ever used a dump truck with let's give you a little tour of this thing it's old and ratty and cool again this is an old Ford dump truck right here I don't know what model it is it's a L something LLL 9000 or something like that L 6000 in here this is operator station rusty crusty and old but if you guys are missing some toilet paper I've got it right there for you in case you need it but it's good enough it gets the job done it's got a two-speed rear end that's what that little knob right there is so it's got five gears and a two-speed rear end I believe it's five gears and this is the key to start it however it won't just start so if you reach right here it doesn't do anything there's a secret there's a trick to starting this critter so what we do is we reach up here we grab our hood handle Oh pull this guy open whole front end opens like a dragster man that's bad mater's got attitude baby all right we've got a jumper wire here and we take that jumper this little guy here and we hook it right to this solenoid and you can hear a little bit of noise going on so that's in good shape we're going to take mater Oh back and we're going to hit the key when we first got Mader he smoked a lot we put some nice good fresh clean diesel fuel in here and let's just double-check make sure we're in neutral and fire all made her up listen to this Oh spoke too soon there it is mater purrs like a kitten man and she don't smoke no more that's a hustling man so we'll let mater warm up a little bit while we throw this first load we've got the tooth bucket on the skid loader so we've got to smooth buckets and a tooth bucket I put the tooth bucket on because I've got a little bit of work to do landscape work up on the top of the hill as soon as I get done loading old mater out then we're gonna look almost felt and we're gonna take mater and finish this job load up a big load of dirt and take it back to the house cuz I've got a hold that I need to have filled in it's a swampy place awesome let's get busy and toss the drone up in the air get you guys some cool footage of all this work we're gonna get done it's going to be a challenge flying that drone through the woods but we're going to do it always wear hearing protection loud equipment I don't want to be that old man that says hey what's that you say I'll probably still be that old man that says always wear your hearing protection begins rained out bad weather who got to roll some windows up get nasty here it in like three minutes a big storm is blown up and we got a roll we got to get out of here behind the scenes there is somewhere in the neighborhood and flipping the hood up turning Manor off behind the scenes there's probably five or six thousand dollars worth the cameras at work here guys this is a little behind the scenes Stoney Ridge for you so right here is another camera there's cameras all over everywhere I'm running three and four and five cameras at a time we got to get home or we are gonna get absolutely drenched so we'll see you down here tomorrow in the morning all right cousin guys it's actually two days later and we got a nasty nasty storm the night when we started this so I took the dump truck here later and ran back up to the house as quickly as I possibly could I hear Abby over my head and anyhow took it back up to the house dumped what was in it because I didn't want to get stuck in the mud now if you know anything about dump truck so get stuck in the mud on a dime I mean it's they just get stuck in the mud really really easy so what we're going to do is we're headed back down and we're going to finish loading up we're probably going to do about four loads and you'll get a little bit of sense of the adventure of getting back into this tight spot so there's a really tight area that we have to take the dump truck down through in order to get it to the wood so I whip the camera around and you'll see it's probably this much on either the bridge that we have right now before the dump truck falls off either side we're gonna fix it all up today good stuff excited day two so you guys know where we're headed is about on a no quarter mile from the house okay it's just a little bit it's like a four minute walk something like that tight squeeze this is a road we constructed about two and a half years ago to get back in here we're gonna build a cabin back here for folks to come and stay on the farm and enjoy the farm experience off the camera so that'll be pretty fun pretty cool here's the tight spot I pretty much need to set this camera down it's really tight it's alright hammer down and it's one of those moments where you pucker up [Music] [Applause] [Music] you know there goes the neighborhood when Josh decides that he's gonna play with the skid letter and get stuck so guys I was working I kind of working down this hole and all of a sudden it got a little bit soft and it mired up on that side I tried to dig my way out push my way out but as I got further and further up this little embankment that I've created right here I felt like I was going to lean over lean forward and fall out so here's where we are I'm gonna hook up the dump truck got the chain out on the ground here and we're gonna hand the camera over to mrs. Stoney Ridge and video.this pull out you never know what's going to happen stick around to the end I will show you the bridge down here where we're fixing it all up this was a surprise definitely great so the plan is we're gonna put over top of this beam right here and hopefully pull this kid loader out should be that bad Tony's never driven a skid steer so it's gonna be pretty fun all right throttle up dumptruck mater let us down over here through a belt and started getting hot started boiling over we're just about out huh however we aren't out so we're gonna go get the old John Deere and hook up to the other John Deere and make a big old John Deere mess pay attention people don't do this it just got a little bit slick check it out check out the water that this low spot it just pulled up water it was pretty crazy so we picked up the 5065 1 john deere to pull out the next John Deere and I think we'll get it out really really quick we threw a belt on the truck and it started overheating pain in the butt and we'll set the camera up here and we're gonna get rocking and rolling it's in there man it is in a hole [Applause] that's what we should have done in the first place instead of breaking belts on the truck the truck would have been fine if I had I not done that that is a hole right there let me tell you guys I need to kind of explain to you why this hole was happening so what I was doing is digging down about a foot and a half and a little bit of a trench so that I pulled this wet spot this stays wet all the time I wanted to pull the moisture and the water out of that spot which is where we drive and get it down here just a little ways further and you can see this is a swampy area right here but it just filled slap-up with water so then we'll have a nice mosquito pit but the thing is that this area is so highly eroded that what will happen is that'll fill up with silt probably in the next two brainstorms or so so that's what's up that's what's going on let's go work on getting the bridge fixed this is Tony by the way neighbor neighbor Tony this is our pandemic pull out of the mud good stuff farm life baby farm life farm what [Music] well you can't argue with that absolutely awesome so we filled in all the holes all the way up to the edge of the pipe right here we've still got to get in and get this riprap up and throw it up on the bank right here so that it prevents washing again I'm thinking about doing a little concrete over top of this so that next time we have a big flood and we have floods our waterfall is kind of right down through here and the water will get way way up so I saw water two feet over top of this little bridge right here that's a lot of water so we got our all fixed up little skinny buck did a great job man it sucked getting stuck but you know sometimes that's just the way it is when you're doing farm work when you're doing stuff around your property sometimes you get hung up that took us about an hour and a half to get out in hindsight I should have just went and got the John Deere tractor and pulled it out but I thought maybe I could get it out with the dump truck now I've got more work to do I've got to put a new belt on that dump truck and I can't tell what the numbers are on that belt so that's a Ford 7000 with a 3208 I believe caterpillar motor correct me if I'm wrong if you saw the last video but I think we'll be able to find it it's pretty cool I took pictures of the VIN tag and all that stuff so I could look it all up tonight and find a belt and get it back in good shape I guess guys thanks a lot for joining me here on the Stoney Ridge farm today I appreciate it hope you enjoyed this little trip around the farm just as just what's going on today here on the Stoney Ridge so we got this thing all fixed up we got a broken dump truck now red see you next time [Music] here in sweet add some ways those Denise Tony Reed [Music]
