What happens here
Before beginning any sandblasting, it is critical to set up your equipment and prioritize safety. First, ensure adequate ventilation in your workspace. Lay down large tarps or plastic sheeting to cover surfaces and collect spent abrasive media. Assemble your sandblasting unit, connecting the sandblaster pot to a high-volume air compressor via an air hose, ensuring all connections are secure. Fill the sandblaster pot with your chosen abrasive media. Finally, don all necessary personal protective equipment: a full-face hood or respirator with eye protection, hearing protection, heavy-duty gloves, and long sleeves/pants to protect skin from abrasive rebound.
Goal: Prepare the workspace, equipment, and personal protective gear for safe sandblasting.
Tools and materials
- Air Compressor
- Air Hose — Connecting the air compressor to the sandblaster
- Full-face Hood with Respirator — Protecting the face, eyes, and respiratory system from dust and abrasive particles
- Hearing Protection — Protecting ears from the loud noise of the sandblaster and air compressor
- Heavy-duty Gloves — Protecting hands from abrasive media and potential metal shards
- Sandblaster — To propel abrasive media at high speed onto the metal surface
- Work Table — Supporting the metal part during sandblasting
- Abrasive Media — The media used for abrading the metal surface
- Tarps/Plastic Sheeting — Protecting the work area and collecting spent abrasive media for potential reuse or disposal
