Spray Like a Pro: Garage Door Finish That Wows the Neighborhood

What happens here

The weather stripping on the sides of the garage door should be painted, as paint acts as a UV protector, preventing oxidation and cracking over time. This extends the life of the weather strip. However, the weather stripping on the bottom of the garage door should *not* be painted and must be masked off. If the garage door was raised and paint was applied to the side weather strips, ensure the paint is 100% dry before lowering the door. Lowering a door with wet paint can cause the paint to 'bridge' between the weather strip and the door panels, potentially tearing the weather strip or even damaging the garage door opener when the door is next opened.

actually overlap. And um these are insulated garage doors about that thick. You're never going to get overspray kick into that o that overlap and somehow work its way through there. Weather strip, you don't want to paint the weather strip. So, we always mask off the weather strip on the bottom of the garage door. The weather strips on the sides. this weather strip right here. If you don't paint that, it will oxidize over time. It will dry out, crack, and the customer is going to have to replace it. If you paint it, it the the paint actually acts as a a UV protector, and it keeps the weather strip soft, and you'll never have to replace it. What about behind the weather strips? The last house I painted, um, it was black and the garage doors were white to begin with. You can see those are are a tan. This isn't a huge contrast right here, but because it's black and white, you do see a little thin white um like white line there. So, to resolve that, when the door is up, you can go just hand roll that. Make sure it's 100% dry before you actually lower the door down. And then you'll once you lower it down, you'll just make sure it hasn't um tacked to it cuz that could be disastrous cuz we've actually, you know, had that happen a couple times um where we damaged the garage door, ripped it out of the garage door because we painted the garage door. We left the garage door um down like most of the day and then went and raised it and it and it the paint bridged from the weather strip to the door and um it basically um glued the door closed. So the garage door went to pull the door open, it ripped the garage door opener right out of the door. My setup, I'm always spraying with the whip. So you the whip is going to give you more uh gun control, less fatigue, less elbow
