What happens here
After preparing the base and structural elements, spread a 1-inch layer of bedding sand evenly over the compacted aggregate base. Use screed boards or a landscape rake to ensure a consistent depth. Begin laying the main patio pavers (lighter colored) in the desired pattern (e.g., random, herringbone, running bond), tapping each paver gently with a rubber mallet to set it into the sand. Cut pavers as needed around edges and obstacles using a wet saw or angle grinder. For the fire pit area, lay contrasting dark pavers in a radial pattern, meticulously cutting them to fit the circular design. Ensure joint lines are consistent and the surface remains level throughout the installation.
Goal: Install all patio and fire pit pavers with precise patterns and levels.
Tools and materials
- Bedding Sand — Providing a level and flexible bedding layer for pavers
- Level — Checking the level and slope of the laid pavers
- Patio Pavers — Creating a distinct visual element for the fire pit area
- Rubber Mallet — Tapping pavers into the sand bed to achieve a level surface
- Screed Board or Landscape Rake — Spreading and leveling the bedding sand
- Wet Saw with Diamond Blade — Precisely cutting pavers to fit edges and curves
