Shower Valve Replacement Made Easy (Delta 1700 Install Step-by-Step)

What happens here

Gather all necessary tools and supplies for soldering and pipe preparation. This includes a MAPP gas torch, flux, solder, a multi-brush cleaner (or emery cloth), and a pencil reamer. The presenter stresses the importance of mixing the flux thoroughly, especially in hot climates, to ensure proper function and prevent soldering issues.

Goal: Prepare all materials and tools for effective pipe joining.

Tools and materials

  • MAPP Gas Torch Harris — Heating copper pipes and fittings for soldering
  • Multi-Brush Cleaner — Cleaning the inside of fittings and outside of pipes (1/2" and 3/4" sizes)
  • Pencil Reamer — Removing burrs from the inside edges of cut copper pipes
  • Safety Gloves — Protecting hands during handling of materials and soldering
  • Flux — Preparing surfaces for soldering to ensure proper adhesion
  • Solder — Creating sealed joints between copper pipes and fittings

haven't had to really solder in a while. Here we've got flux and we have some we have some solder and we need a little bit of emery cloth right here. So we'll take a little bit of this. We actually don't even need that. We could just use this. You know, this is a multi brush cleaner. You can do half inch and 3/4 both inside a fitting and outside the pipe. So we can go right here and we can clean this and make it all shiny or it's got this piece right here. We just go right down in there. This will shine it up nice, too. Take this, put that right in there. Get that all cleaned up. And that's just going to help everything go together. I'll have no solder joints to do tomorrow. I'm going to actually ProPress this piece in place once I get there. So I'm just doing all this pre-work right now. This is actually a ProPress crimp fitting right here, a Viega Pex crimp fitting that we can go right in, crimp that and then we'll be able to put a uh a ProPress coupling on right here. And I'll show you guys the tool for that as well. It'll be great. Everything's prepped. I always like to mix my my flux, man. No matter what, I always like to mix it. Just because it separates, especially if you're in a hot climate. If you've ever had your flux separate and something not solder up for you, it is awful. And we got to go inside.
