so question came in from Dominic here's the question hi I'm a new subscriber and like your positivity and Real World experience I live in Ottawa great City for business my business does mostly softscaping and maintenance residential and some small commercial I have the itch to expand into buying a backo and bid on-site services and ex ation in summer and Commercial snow in the winter am I nuts or is the expansion possible PS now this is the important part I would not be running the machine I am in talks with an experienced operator to come on board okay the first thing yes buy one machine at a time that's how I built my business that's how most businesses get started one piece of equipment at a time but you're making a mistake do not rely on an operator to come in and teach you the ropes with the machine learn the hard way just grab that machine and go out and start doing jobs if you rely on an operator to run that piece of equipment for you what happens if that guy takes off what happens is your business shut down now the the behind the scenes story is Dominic is nervous as a longtail cat in a room full of rocking chairs because he has two small girls and a family to support so there's more than just this guy going out here and trying to do this on his own that's why it's so important for you Dominic to understand every component of okay the point I was making was if you're not willing to get your hands dirty then you need to do something else or go work for somebody but when you're a business owner an entrepreneur and you're getting started you want to grow and expand your business it's a key foundational principle that every single thing that happens in your company you have to either know what that means and how it affects your bottom line or you are intimately aware of how to perform that action in case while you're in that growth phase you don't have a backup you don't have somebody else that can step in and take over those roles you can do it you can be that backup that's not where you want to stay though don't mistake that for taking over that job because remember this one important Point anything that you can pay somebody to do is what you're paying yourself so if you can pay somebody $10 an hour to go out and dig dirt in a trench for you and you decide that's what you're going to do today guess what you just paid yourself $10 an hour that's right so don't make that mistake but do understand how to dig that trench effectively do understand what that means what every component means that's how you're going to grow your business one piece of equipment at a time mastering each component of the business and building from there there you go Dominic there you go rest of the world I love hearing from you guys absolutely love it send your questions to me I'm going to answer them on the air as long as you're cool with it have an awesome one [Applause] w
