What happens here

This video demonstrates how to replace a Woodford Model 17 outdoor faucet that won't shut off. The video suggests purchasing a new Model 17 faucet and using its parts, rather than a repair kit. The process involves turning off the water supply, draining the faucet, removing the handle (using PB Blaster if needed), unscrewing the old hose bib, installing the new one (with silicone grease on rubber parts), and finally testing for leaks and smooth operation.

hey folks that fix it guy here today we have a Woodford brass Model 17 frostfree hose bib that does not open or close so I went to the store and I got an rk-1 17 ma Woodford brass Model 17 repair kit it gives you the complete breakdown on the package and it would have been a great option if the handle was not corroded to the stem and stripped off the other side where the stem meets the check V I thought I could get away with using a crescent wrench channel locks a flathead screwdriver tried several different screwdrivers and some PB Blaster but I ended up having to pull out a multi-tool once I finally got this apart I found out that the check valve was completely off the stem and then it was a whole another 30 minutes trying to get that out the repair kit wasn't going to help anymore once we found the stem issue headed back to the store with the stem in hand and match the size of the stem with a new frostfree hose bib they had the exact same model 7 is nice that Home Depot actually stocks Woodford brass Model 17 hose bibs the repair kit cost around $30 and the 8in hose bib cost around 45 so for $15 more you'll save yourself a big headache just go ahead and roll with this option it works out great all I had to do at this point was shut the water off oh open the hose bib drain it unscrew the packing pull out the hole handle stem and check assembly repeat the process on the new one before you put the stem into the faucet do yourself a favor grab some silicone grease and rub down all the rubber Parts this is going to ensure that your O-rings and your rubber washers and everything are going to last a bit longer and then install the new assembly into the exist exting hose bib I had to repair two hose bibs here and the first one had a lot of lessons learned I don't have hard water like this in my area if you have a Model 17 Woodford brass hose bib save yourself all the frustration and just replace the guts yes I could have just replaced the hose bib but the drywall had just got done and they didn't want fresh holes cut in the wall so I I really hope this video helped there's always challenges and Plum and in life right stop take a breath find another way through there's always another way through thank you very much and we'll see you again real soon
