What happens here
This comprehensive project guides viewers through the unboxing and assembly of new Toro Recycler lawnmowers (gas and battery models). It then proceeds to thoroughly test and compare their performance against an EGO battery-powered mower in various demanding lawn conditions, including dry clover, tall wet grass, and dense weeds, while highlighting key operational features, safety aspects, and adjustment mechanisms.

(10,905 characters)okay i don't know if that turned out as cool as i thought it would in my mind [Music] [Applause] i've been in the darkness for 40 days [Music] i've been i need room in the back of the suv i did where do you need it right there it's great thank you very much all right guys you got to have giant brass balls for this next one toro didn't send me these eagle actually bought toro mowers and had them sent to me brand new in the box unopened so we're gonna crack these suckers open for the first time and then we're gonna take america's number one rated more mower the toro gas powered more and put it up against the eagle battery powered more and then we're going to see how toro's battery-powered unit does up against ego's battery-powered unit so what are we waiting for let's see what's inside the boxes before we crack open the toro boxes and check out the new mowers ego did have one request they wanted me to put new blades on their look at mower [Music] all right we're in business the toro gas and battery powered motors are identical they share the same steel deck same drive line same push personal pay system same everything except for the actual battery powered one has a motor and the gas one has an engine now this is toro's gas powered unit and it runs off a briggs and stratton engine that does not require priming or a choke i got to slide this over here and then run the bolt through there all right let's take a look under the hood and see what makes each one of these guys tick first the eagle so we've got a dual blade system that's their big bragging right these are two brand new blades that i just stuck on one is actually a mulching blade the other is just a regular cutting blade uh shoot is out the back that's the ego so now let's take a closer look at the toro let's see what we got beneath what lies at the heart of it all right we've got a single single blade system with a belt with a pulley which is fairly unique uh simply because the pulley then powers the wheels that means that on the toro it has one motor that propels both the uh the drive system and the cutting deck with the eagle it has two motors one that powers the cutting system and a second motor right here which powers the drive wheels so that means the power that the toro delivers has to be divided between the wheels and the head now let's look at uh underneath i don't want to flip this over for very long but we'll take a peek as best we can i don't want to spill fuel or oil this has the same system the exact same drive system belt and pulley as the battery powered toro right next to it same steel deck same setup so basically what they've done is take the gas powered system and swap the power head out for the battery powered system to create their 60 volt line first up total gas first test is an eight week old clover well it hasn't been mowed up personal face battery power okay something's beeping at me let's go right to the eagle and let's see how we do [Applause] see blade now before i could even begin this very first test i did have a little bit of a challenge figuring out how to get the toro gas power mower to start and that was on me i'll just show you what i mean they provided it right there no oil changes necessary let's see what does it say no oil change required just buy their stuff how do you not how do you not need an oil change i don't get that where's the choke i don't see a choke okay so this has got to be your blade engage and this has got what is this personal pace what is this how does this work i don't even know yet let's try to start it let's see what happens where i get thrown for a little bit of a loop i just want to start the engine i don't want to engage the blades but on this mower you've got to actually pull back on the blade engage to get the engine to fire up but i don't realize that right away okay what am i doing wrong this is no prime no choke right there no prime no choke ready to start and that's where i screw up because i was assuming you could start the motor without starting the blades but you okay call that a stupid stanley moment stupid stanley all right so pull that back see i thought that was the blade engage and it sounds like it kind of it's not hard to pull see what happens so that is the blade engaged the mowers doesn't run if the blades aren't engaged what if i just want the mower running and i don't want the blade spinning what if my neighbor comes over talks to me or somebody comes out and i just want to walk away from it how do i do it i'm missing something here guys i don't see it because the drive wheels are actually physically connected to the blade system that means that for this mower to move on its own you've got to have the blades engaged there is no separation unlike the ego which allows you to have one the other or both operating separately or independently i call this the unlimited series this is where we raise the decks all the way up put the shoots on and give it hell the eagle has one handle which raises all four wheels equally all right this one on the toros you adjust each wheel individually except it's a little bit confusing because they use this metal tab and the height acquirement doesn't match up to the actual numbers on the wheels without looking at the manual so once you get it adjusted if you've got to raise it up and down you're going to need the manual to make sure that you get the front wheels in the exact same spacing as the rear wheels to make sure that you don't have your deck out of adjustment or cutting uneven bending all right i'm gonna have to two-hand it it is i want to go from there to there okay one hand this side should be easier to get the one side done nope oh there we go ding dong ditch let's cut this ditch i don't know all right let's do it first up is the toro battery powered mower and we're going to be pushing these through the tall grass until they quit on their own the eagle uses a plastic polymer deck which makes the mower come in at around 60 pounds the toros on the other hand use old-fashioned steel technology but that also pushes the weight of the deck up to 83 pounds and just like that i knocked the chute off and turned the mower into a mulcher but i've got to save some grass to test out the toro gas powered units all right the eagle was the only one that didn't quit in the tall weeds so i want to amp it up and see what it's going to take to get it to stop [Music] so [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] i've got one final test that i want to put both of these molars through and that's to cut thick wet grass real short but to do that means i've got to get both mowers set to the exact same height tiny bit of a conundrum here guys i want to get both of these decks raised to the same height on the eagle everything's laid out right here one two three four five but unfortunately the toro does not have anything labeled there's no labels on any of them so if you want to get it adjusted to the right height you got to go to the manual okay it's right here all right so the are these the same okay okay so according to this diagram you pull the back wheel all the way to the back to go on the lowest setting and the front wheel all the way to the front to go to the lowest setting so you spread them apart but i want to go somewhere in the middle but what would happen if i wanted to go two and a half inches then that would mean i'd have to bring this one in three in the back and then one two two and a half would be three full slots three full slots on the front okay so if i got this if i'm if i remember this correctly what do i gotta do again so i finally got all three mowers set to the same height and now it's time for the wet grass test [Music] [Applause] [Music] one of the things that surprised me the most while making this video was that the toro gas powered mower typically did the worst out of the three with the toro battery always beating it just [Music] then my son came down and i thought this was a great chance to see how intuitive each roller was i want to see how he figures these things out okay so to make her go hit the blue button pull pull back on the safety bar but now your blades and your cell propeller is all your blades are always activated no matter what you're cutting oh okay um so then and then when you want to go forward you just push on this whole assembly all right so i have to have the blades running all the time yep that sucks okay [Music] [Applause] if you want it to go slower push don't push so hard that's a problem all right so now this one yeah to make this one go so those lights yep okay now you got the blades on yeah how do i make it speeders down here and when you want to just make it go forward you just push and when you want to make it go faster you just dial it up or down i like that cool oh the dial yeah it's kind of nice because you can actually do it with one thumb yeah that is kind of nice there's probably no one here well now i can go for this okay all right let's go down and see if you can figure out how to crank up the gas i'm not gonna help you till you ask doesn't have a thing that makes it go forward or does it yep yep it's self-propelled i didn't know that as you take a look at the mower look her over and see what you get to see i think we started with this yup do you want me to start it yep i want you to start it oh my gosh how do you hold up wait if i pull on it goes forward do i like nope i'm not just give it the best give it your best goal [Laughter] it no no no no there's a way there's a way you actually started the right way when the very first time you touched the lawnmower don't undo that why can't i do it because that's easier nope nope the very first time you touch the lawnmower you did it the right way you grab the safety bar this is it that's it yep now it should it goes no you gotta you gotta pull it back you might be in some tall grass so pull it back and hold up hold up don't don't touch nothing i'm going to check underneath here all right you got but if it why do you have to why do people still make these terrible like what's the point of this so but the blade's always running and i have to push it up yeah electric one yep all right you guys testing is done and just for fun let's see how much battery life we have okay two bars on the toro and let's just see how much fuel we have we've burned through kind of gives us an idea down to about there okay so there you go you guys that's our video for today you tell me who won um man we we kind of did a whole bunch of stuff but i want to know who do you guys think won that's all i got for you god bless go get him you guys and we'll see you on another one and hey you guys if you're hungry for in-depth information and amazing interviews go check out my brand new podcast called landscape disrupters now god bless and go get em you guys we'll see on another one
