Restructuring this deck required a bit of creative framing for the new roof. Done and done!
What happens here
Apply a wood preservative or stain (e.g., 'Woodluxe' brand) to the newly cut surfaces of the notch. Since treated lumber is cut, the exposed interior wood grain is no longer protected by the factory treatment. Use a small roller or brush to thoroughly coat all raw wood surfaces to prevent rot and insect damage, extending the life of the post. Allow it to dry according to the product instructions.
Goal: Protect the newly cut wood from moisture and pests.
