Restoring a 1800s Tool for my Wife. Because I was to Cheap to Buy New.
What happens here
After the initial wash, carefully unscrew the bolts holding the blade in place. The bolts are likely flathead screws and may be seized due to age; use a screwdriver and potentially a rubber mallet to gently tap the screwdriver for leverage and to break the seal. Once removed, take the blade to a flat belt sander. Wear heat-resistant gloves, such as HyFlex gloves, as the blade will heat up during sharpening. Carefully run both sides of the blade along the moving belt to sharpen the cutting edge. Reinstall the sharpened blade, ensuring it's in the correct orientation.
Goal: Sharpen the blade for optimal cutting performance
